I have lived in this area all my life and owned the resort in question in the 1960,s. To the best of my knowledge 'it was run as a resoit prior to, during and after my ownership. The cabins, which are there now, were built in the 1950s. While I owned the property it was called Sunset Resort. I lived in one cabin and rented out the others. MINNESOTA 56537 1 June 2000 MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD, Raymond Klimek property on Block Lake sometimes known as “Block Lake Resort”, Parcel #21000170112001 From: ^'Iark Ronning To: BillKalar In response to your question concerning my recollections of the subject property during my tenure with the OTC Public Health Department, 1 submit the following statement. I inspected all the licensed food-beverage-lodging facilities in the county from Oct 1991 - Jan 1998. The county at that time defined a resort as having 2 or more rental units. The state health department defines a resort as having 5 or more rental units. During my travels around the county, I noticed the group of cabins on the South side of Block I. ake (1 believe that it was in 1995). Since it was not on my list of licensed facilities, I researched who owned it and questioned why it w as not licensed as a resort, i communicated with the owner at that time (I believe by letter). I he OAvner informed me that ii was not a resort but a type of family compound and that it was not rental property. No other action was taken at that time. Unfortunately, the county correspondence files are not accessible, since the county returned the FBL program to the state in 1998. To my knowledge, neither the state nor the county departments of health ever licensed this property as a resort. Respectfully submitted.
