Whispering Pines Resort-Approved as requested. (8:10 p.m.)
Whispering Pines Resort, Robert Corbin, Plymouth, MN, requested the following: “On September 5, 2002,
a request for variance to Cabin 9, which is 32’ from the North lot line, was presented and approved. The
Planning Commission and the County Commissioners also subsequently approved this original request.
The approved change was to add a 20’ by 16’ addition to the back of the existing cabin. After working with
a local contractor on the cabin design, we would also like to change the roof of the structure. The existing
cabin has a 3/12-pitch roof. We would like to change the roof to a 12/12 pitch. The existing cabin is a 2-
bedroom structure. After the cabin changes are complete, the cabin would be a 2-bedroom with a sleeping
loft at the back of the cabin, with the front of the cabin being an open design, floor to roof. The revised
design will allow us to improve the living room, kitchen, and bathroom size and the overall aesthetics of the
cabin. We would also like to tear down cabin 12, which is 24’ from the North lot line of the property. This
change is associated with moving cabin 6 to the second row of cabins, and constructing another cabin in
that original location. Cabin 6 would be place on the south side of cabin 11, in conformance with the 50’
setback. All changes result in no increase in dwelling units on the property.” The property is described as
Lot 8 through Lot 13, Lewis Ward Martins Perfect Beach, Big Pine Lake in Corliss Township. The audience
was polled with no one speaking for or against the request. After consideration, motion was made by
Steve Schierer, second by Cecil Femling and unanimously carried, to approve the variance as requested
and as described in the variance application.
Kenneth L. Mart - Approved as requested with a condition. (8:15 p.m.)
Kenneth L. Mart, Brooklyn Park, MN, requested the following: “The last couple of years the water level has
been so high the property has been completely flooded and the cabin has been surrounded by water.
Each summer has been a hardship situation and the cabin not usable until the water recedes. The cabin is
supported by cement blocks, which have shifted. I would like to lift the cabin straight up and repair the
footings so this doesn’t happen again, re-level the cabin, then set the cabin down on the new footings.
There is no intent to change the location of the cabin." The existing cabin is approximately 51’ from the
ordinary high water level. The property is described as Lots 25, 26 and 27, Lindenwood, East Middle Leaf
Lake in Leaf Lake Township. Terry Lee represented the applicant at the public hearing. The audience was
polled with no one speaking for or against the request. After consideration, motion was made by Mark
Steuart, second by Steve Schierer and unanimously carried, to approve the proposed project with the
condition that the raised structure must be placed as far from the lake as possible without encroaching on
the either the required holding tank setback or the required lot line setbacks. The intent of the variance as
approved is to move the raised structure to the north and to the east and to place the raised structure 10’
from the holding tank. It was noted that the modified location would not obstruct the view from the adjacent
properties; It was also noted that the variance as approved would be consistent with prior actions of the
Board of Adjustment.
With no further business. Chairman Mann, declared the meeting adjourned at 8: 33 p.m.
