Lorene Schumacher - Denied
Lorene Schumacher, Perham, MN, requested a variance to subdivide, by metes and bounds
description, a 10.3-acre tract into 3 tracts. Two of the three tracts will be less than the required
minimum of 5 acres. The property is described as the northerly 10.3-acres in Government Lot 8,
Section 20 of Hobart Township by Rose Lake. September 3,1998 Meeting - The audience was polled
with no one speaking for or against the request. After consideration, motion was made by Randall
Mann, seconded by David Holmgren and unanimously carried, to table the-applicant’s request until the
October 8, 1998 Board of Adjustment meeting for a review by the County Attorney’s office of the
procedure for converting an easement road to a dedicated public road and for additional information
concerning the status of easement roads. It was noted that George Walter would discuss this
application with the County Attorney. October 8,1998 Meeting - After discussion and consideration,
motion was made by John Everts, seconded by David Holmgren and unanimously carried to table the
applicant’s requested until the November 5, 1998 Board of Adjustment meeting so that the applicant
can review the public road dedication process. November 5,1998 Meeting - The applicant contacted
the office prior to the meeting and stated that she would not continue to pursue her variance request.
After consideration, motion was made by John Everts, seconded by Randall Mann and unanimously
carried, to deny the variance as requested based upon the applicant’s statement to the office.
Land and Resource Department Issues -
Mark and Jean Rortvedt-
A question has been raised concerning the replacement and raising of the roof on the applicants’
original structure. On September 3, 1998 a variance was granted for an addition to the existing
structure. An inspection by the office revealed that the roof has been removed from the original
structure. Apparently the original structure is to close to the lot-fine. The general consent of the
membership of the Board of Adjustment is that since the footprint of the original structure is not
changing the applicant should be allow to proceed with the replacement and raising of the roof which
covered the original structure.
Joel Scheer - Amended
After consideration, motion was made by George Walter, seconded by David Holmgren and
unanimously carried, to amend the motion of August 6,1998, to read as follows:
To approve a T variance from both lot lines for the placement of a garage no closer than 9’ from
either lot line and a variance of 2’ from the required road right-of-way setback of 20’ for the
placement of one corner of a 28’ by 32’ garage 18’ from the road right-of-way.
William and Janet Schicker - Modification of a variance granted October 1,1998.
William and Janet Schicker requested a modification of the previously granted variance. It was the
general consent of the Board that a new application for consideration should be submitted.
With no further business Chairman Walter declared the meeting adjourned at 10:00 p.m.
