County Board December 8, 1983
Motion was made by Van Ellig, seconded by Hub Nordgren and carried, to
appoint Norman Fjestad and Andy Leitch to the R.C.& D. Committee to represent West
Otter Tail County and the West Otter Tail Soil & Water Conservation District for the
calendar year 1 984 .
Carl Madsen of the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service appeared before the
Board and outlined a new operation offered by the U. S. F & WL Service commencing in
the spring of 1984 involving rent of restored wetlands, with a total of $3,000,000 to
be spent over the neat ten years in Douglas, Grant and Otter Tail Counties.
Motion wasmade by Bert Hovland, seconded by Sydney Nelson arid carried,
to approve the plat of Martinson Subdivision (formerly G-M Subdivision) located in
Section 3, Scambler Township.
Motion was made by Bert Hovland, seconded by Van Ellig, to uphold the
decision of the Otter Tail County Planning Advisory Commission and deny the following
applications for special use permit:'

As was proposed during the initial hearing on November
1983, it is the interest of the owners to redei-'elop the
resort in keeping with changing resort requirements. Under
current DNR redevelopment guidelines for resorts, 26 units
are permitted. We are proposing to r ede\-'e lop
with construction of 24 2--bedroom cabins, a small lodge,
swimming pool and other appropriate recreational activities.
This method of redevelopment would thereby replace the
e;;i sting resort and campground facilities.

for industry
Minnesota has a revolving loan
fund that can provide fixed asset
financing to manufacturing and in
dustrial firms that are either star
ting up or expanding their opera
tions in 36 counties target as being
economically distressed. That list
includes Otter Tail, Grant, Douglas,
Becker and Wadena counties.
The program provides below-
market interest rates on long-term
loans for up to 20 percent of the total
project cort.
The most recent loan was $85,000
to Nordic Boat Company Inc. in Lit
tle Falls, for an expansion that will

Cabin fire
A cabin at Shady Bay Resort was destroyed by fire Friday night,
' authorities said.
Fire departments from Dent and Underwood responded to the
call at about 8:15 last night. Marvin Harthun, an Underwood
fireman, said the fire probably was caused when electrical wiring
shorted out.
The cabin was located about 10 miles north of Underwood on East
Lost Lake in Maine Township. Firefighters remained at the scene
for about an hour.
Two nearby cabins sustained heat damage.
