Gerald D. Stoick, St. Michael, MN, requested a variance of 1’ from the required side lot line setback of
10’ and a variance of 13’ from the required ordinary high water level setback of 100’ for a proposed 26’
by 76’ dwelling, including an attached garage, 9’ from the side lot lines and 87' from the ordinary high
water level. The property is described as Lot 13, Kimber Beach, Blanche Lake in Girard Township. The
audience was polled with Mark Ronning expressing concerns with adequate space for the applicant’s
septic system and with Fremont Frazee requesting that no variance from the side lot line be granted.
After consideration, motion was made by John Everts, seconded by Randall Mann and unanimously
carried, to approve a variance of 1’ from the required side lot line setback of 10’ and a variance of 13’
from the required ordinary high water level setback of 100’ for a proposed 26’ by 76’ dwelling, including
an attached garage, 9’ from the side lot lines and 87’ from the ordinary high water level with the
condition that the applicant has a septic system that complies with the requirements of the ordinance. It
was noted that the proposed structure is not excessively large, is behind the existing building line and
the granting of this variance would be consistent with past practices of the Board Of Adjustment.
Hardship is a substandard lot of record and the granting of the variances will allow the applicant the
ability to enjoy the same rights and privileges as others in the immediate area.
Richard and Mary Lou Beck and Linwood and Joycelyn Beck - Approved
Richard and Mary Lou Beck and Linwood and Joycelyn Beck, Fergus Falls, MN, requested a variance
to ‘‘create a 4 lot subdivision with 3 lots being 150 ft. wide and 1 lot being approximately 100 ft. wide at
the building setback line but with the proper water frontage width.” The property is described as part of
Lot 5 and all of Lot 6, Block 1, Walleye Beach and part of Government Lot 2, Section 14 of Maine
Township by Pickerel Lake. Clem Hendrickson, Surveyor, appeared along with the applicants at the
public hearing. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the request. After
consideration, motion was made by George Walter, seconded by Randall Mann and unanimously
carried, to approve a variance to create a 4 lot subdivision with 3 lots being 150’ wide and 1 lot being
approximately 100’ wide at the building setback line, noting that all 4 lots have adequate water frontage
and area, with the condition that no side lot line variances will be granted in the future and with the
•condition that the 4 lots will be developed by an official plat. It was noted that the 4 lots do abut a public
road. It was also noted that the lot that does not have adequate width at the building line is adjacent to
an irregular shaped public lake access, thereby creating a hardship for the applicants, as well as, a
buffer zone for development that might occur to the east of the public lake access.

Star Lake. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the request. After
consideration, motion was made by John Everts, seconded by David Holmgren and unanimously
carried, to deny the variance as requested as no adequate hardship had been shown and other
alternatives exist that will provide the applicants with a reasonable use of their property.
