Klimp’s Kamp Resort - Approved
Kimp’s Kamp Resort, C/0 James and John Kimple, Dent, MN, requested a variance to replace an existing 16’ by 24’
two bedroom cabin with a 24’ by 24’ story and a half three bedroom cabin in the same location as the existing cabin.
The cabin would be approximately 50’ from the ordinary high water level, 105’ from the septic tanks and 35’ from the
duplex dump system. The property is described as Lots 1 through 13, Block 1 and Lots 1 through 3, Block 2, Yaquina
Bay and part of Government Lot 4, Section 8 of Dead Lake Township by Dead Lake. The cabin that is being
proposed for replacement is located on Lot 8, Block 1, Yaquina Bay. The audience was polled with no one speaking
for or against the request. A letter from the Dead Lake Association in favor of the variance request was read for the
record. After consideration, motion was made by Cecil Femling, seconded by Craig Anderson and unanimously
carried, to approve a variance to replace an existing 16’ by 24’ two bedroom cabin with a 24’ by 24’ story and a half
three bedroom cabin in the same location as the existing cabin.
Fisherman’s Village Resort (David Paul Thompson) - Approved
Fisherman’s Village Resort, C/0 David Paul Thompson, Battle Lake, MN, requested a variance of 60’ from the
required ordinary high water level setback of 100’ for the replacement of two 16’ 6” by 22’ 6” cabins with a 33’ by 22’
6” two story year round ADA approved dwelling 40’ from the ordinary high water level. The property is described as
Lots 5, 6, and 7, Beauty Beach, Deer Lake in Everts Township. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or
against the request. After consideration, motion was made by John Everts, seconded by Craig Anderson and
unanimously carried, to approve a variance of 60’ from the required ordinary high water level setback of 100’ for the
replacement of two 16’ 6” by 22’ 6” cabins with a 33’ by 22’ 6” two story year round ADA approved dwelling 40’ from
the ordinary high water level. It should be noted that the new structure will use no more land area than the original
two structures that are being replaced.
Jerry J. and Dennis D. Dodd - No Variance Required
Jerry J. and Dennis D. Dodd, Clear Lake, lA, requested variances from the required ordinary high water level setback
of 75’ for the construction of five decks to five existing cabins less than 75’ from the ordinary high water level. The
decks range in size from 96 square feet to 240 square feet. The drawings would indicate that the setbacks from the
ordinary high water level range from approximately 34’ to approximately 71’. The property is described as
Government Lot 2 and part of Government Lot 4, Section 8 of Maplewood Township by South Lake Lida. The
audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the request. After consideration and discussion, motion was
made by Craig Anderson, seconded by Randall Mann and unanimously carried, to allow the applicants to withdraw
their variance request since all of the proposed decks will be under three feet in total height and to authorize a partial

Board of Adjustment,
On May 6, 1996 my brother Jerry and my wife and I purchased
the Old Lake Lida Resort property from Chet and Lois Norby. Our
intention is to use the property for personal use for family and
friends and not as a resort. We would like to make some
additions to the cabins on this property and are requesting a
variance to do so. That would include a bathroom and\or a deck
area, or both as per the attached drawings. The Old house and
cabin #3 presently have bathrooms in them, installed in 1976 when
the new septic system was installed on this property (see
attached drawing). We have found that the property is in a non-
conforming status as far as the zoning ordinances are concerned.
We also understand that condition is quite common for some of the
older residences and/or resorts as they were built before the
ordinances were established, thus the application for a variance.
A variance was recieved for the new septic installation in 1976,
which was made to accomadate 9 bedrooms, (see attached document).
We have made sure that any bathroom addition is no closer to the
lake than the existing structures and meets all other distances
and requirements that are recognizable by us. The decks will be
in front of the cabins with the intent of enjoying the lake and
lake view. They will be no higher than the three foot limit
given to us at Land Management and have no roof structure. We
would like to install a 24 inch railing on the decks if that is
permissable.
This property is located in a semi-secuded area with the
nearest neighbor, Harlan Knutson, close to a 1/8 mile from any of
our buildings. Any others would be across the lake to the east
of our property. This is mentioned to address the potential
problem of the possibility of some structure or addition blocking
someones view of the lake. That would not be possible even if
someone did build closer to us because of the elevation change to
the north and west of us beginning at cabin 4 then west including
cabin 5 and cabin 6. The elevation rises approximately 10 feet
in that distance and is 10 to 15 feet above the lake at cabin 6.
It rises even more sharply to the west to approximately 30 feet
above the lake level in a few hundred feet. The lake is to the
south and east of our property and any structure built to the
north or west would, due to the elevation change, be above any
roofline of our existing buildings.
If additional information is needed please advise to Dennis
Dodd, 2906 N. Shore Dr., Clear Lake, Iowa, 50428 or call at 1-
515-357-3671 or 1-515-357-5233.Thank you for your assistance.
Sincerely Requested,
Dennis and Jerry Dodd

RE; Application For Variance, South Lida Resort, Lake Lida (56-747)
Dear Jerry Dodd & Dennis Dodd:
The Application for Variance that you submitted to our office was reviewed by Bill
Kalar (Administrator). From this reviewal, it was determined that in addition to the
variances (for lake setbacks for the decks on cabins.1,2,4,5&6), it also appears
that a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) is needed. The CUP is needed for the
bathroom additions (change in size) on cabins 1,2,4,5&6.
I have enclosed a Conditional Use Application, Fee Schedule and List of Cut-Off
Dates for your use. In order to process the Conditional Use Application, the
Planning Commission has ruled that a surveyor's drawing needs to accompany
Applications for Cluster Developments.
Also, please be aware, that in order to process the Variance Application, you need
to submit a $60.00 Fee. In order to be considered at the Septenhber 5th Board of'
Adjustment Meeting, we need to receive the Fee before August 1 5th.
