Edgar and Dianne Wieland - Denied
Edgar and Dianne Wieland, Pelican Rapids, MN, requested a variance of 9’ from the required lot line
setback of 10’ for the placement of a 10’ by 12’ shed 1’ from the lot line. The property is described as
Lot 4, Outlet Beach, Lake Lida in Lida Township. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or
against the request. After consideration, motion was made by John Everts, seconded by Randall Mann
and unanimously carried, to deny the variance as requested as no adequate hardship had been shown
and a reasonable use of the applicants’ property can be obtained without the granting of a variance.
Harriet A. Evert - Approved
Harriet A. Evert, Moorhead, MN, requested the following: my “lot has only 100’ of frontage according to
the plat copy. By today’s requirements this constitutes a substandard lot. Current requirements are
150 feet frontage and 40,000 sq. ft. The lot now has approx. 100’ of frontage and 31,850 sq. ft. We are
requesting a variance to allow a home to be built on this lot.” The property is described as part of
Government Lot 5, Section 9 of Dora Township by Spirit Lake. A letter from Norman Buktenica in favor
of the applicant’s request was read for the record. The audience was polled with no one speaking for
or against the request. After consideration, motion was made by Randall Mann, seconded by David
Holmgren and unanimously carried to declare the applicant’s lot a buildable lot. It should be noted that
no other variances for the development of this lot are being granted at this time other than to declare
' the applicant’s lot a buildable lot.
Gary and Lori Skilling - Approved
Gary and Lori Skilling, Vergas, MN, requested a variance of 3’ from the 18’ maximum height of a non
dwelling structure for the construction of a 40’ by 72’ pole building, with 14’ sidewalls, having an overall
height of 21 ’. The property is described as Lot 3, Block 2, Freedom Flyer Estates, Long Lake in Hobart
Township. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the request. After
consideration, motion was made by Randall Mann, seconded by Cecil Femling and unanimously
carried, to approve a variance of 3’ from the 18’ maximum height of a non-dwelling structure for the
construction of a 40’ by 72’ pole building having an overall height of 2T with the condition that the
proposed structure must be at least 10’ from and no more than 15’ from the back lot line of Lot 3, Block
2, Freedom Flyer Estates. It was noted that the proposed structure would not contain a second story
and that the proposed structure will not restrict or obstruct the view of the neighboring properties.

Lost Valley Resort, Ronald and Tammy Richter, Vergas, MN, requested a variance “to add an
additional 8 feet for storage from the outside of lodge. We will also need to replace the roof on that side
of the building. Setback from lake is approximately 6T.” The required ordinary high water level
setback is 100’. The property is described as part of Government Lot 8, Sections 15 and 16 of Candor
Township by Leek /Trowbridge Lake. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the
request. After consideration, motion was made by Cecil Femling, seconded by John Everts and
unanimously carried, to approve the variance as requested noting that the proposed development will
be no closer to the ordinary high water level than the existing structure.
