Motion was made by Mark Steuart, second by Richard Sha and unanimously carried, to deny the variance as
requested as no adequate hardship unique to the property had been shown and the applicant has a very large parcel
that should accommodate the placement of this structure 200’ from the ordinary high water level. After additional
discussion, motion was made by Mark Steuart, second by Steve Schierer and unanimously carried, to have the
existing structure placed into compliance with the requirements of the ordinance by October 31,2000.

Joan H. Frerk - Thompson - Denied
Joan H. Frerk-Thompson, Underwood, MN, requested a variance of 26’ from the required ordinary high
water level setback of 100’ for the replacement of an existing deck with a 28’ by 12’ sun room 74’ from
the ordinary high water level. The property is described as Lot 2, Block 1; Stalker View Acres First
Addition and part of Government Lot 2, Section 27 of Tordenskjold Township by Stalker Lake. Jill Leitch
and Alan Thompson appeared along with the applicant. The audience was polled with Dan Weigold
stating that the applicant’s proposal would somewhat restrict the view from his property and with
Clarence Franka also expressing concerns as to how his view would be affected by the applicant’s
proposed project. After consideration, motion was made by Steve Schierer, second by Cecil Femling
and unanimously carried, to deny the variance as requested has no adequate hardship unique to the
property had been shown and noting that the applicant’s proposed project would be ahead of the string
line.
Richard Wieler - Denied
Richard Wieler, Dent, MN, requested a variance of 59’ from the required ordinary high water level
setback of 200’ (current'water level of the lake) for the construction of a 24’ by 28’ sleeping quarters
141’from the current water level of the lake. The property is described as a 17.99-acre tract in
Government Lots 6 and 7, Section 31 of Edna Township by Pine Lake. A letter from Robert Alberts,
along with a petition signed by 20 individuals, opposing the granting of the variance request was read
for the record. A letter from Elizabeth Duvall, Robert Duvall and Oliver Duvall opposing the applicant’s
request was read for the record; The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the
request. After consideration, motion was made by Mark Steuart, second by Richard Sha and
unanimously carried, to deny the variance as requested as no adequate hardship unique to the
property had been shown and the applicant has a very large parcel that should accommodate the
placement of this structure 200’ from the ordinary high water level. After additional discussion, motion
was made by Mark Steuart, second by Steve Schierer.and unanimously carried, to have the existing
structure placed into compliance with the requirements of the ordinance by October 31, 2000.
Nordick Electric - Approved with modification.
Nordick Electric, Wahpeton, ND, requested a variance of 50’ from the required ordinary high: water level
setback of 100’ for the placement of an above ground swimming pool 50’ from the ordinary high water
level. The property is described as Survey Lots of Government Lots 5 and 6 (Called Lots 12 and 13),
Section 33 of Tordenskjold Township by Stalker Lake. The audience was polled with no one speaking
for or against the request. After consideration, motion was made by Steve Schierer, second by David
Holmgren and unanimously carried, to approve a variance of 48’ from the required ordinary high water
level setback of 100’for the placement of a swimming pool 52’ (being no closer than the existing
structure) from the ordinary high water level. It was noted that the swimming pool would be behind the
string line. Hardship is a substandard lot of record.
