Norman and Stella Amstrup - Denied
Norman and Stella Amstrup, Dent, MN, requested a variance of 7’ from the required 20’ setback for the
enclosure of a carport 13’ from the drain field. The property is described as Lot 6, Block 1, Engstrom
Beach 5th Addition, West McDonald Lake in Edna Township. The audience was polled with no one
speaking for or against the request. After consideration, motion was made by David Holmgren,
seconded by Randall Mann and unanimously carried, to deny the variance as requested as no
adequate hardship had been shown and there appears to be adequate area where the septic system
could be placed so that a variance would not be necessary to enclose the applicant’s carport.
Melvin B. and Grace Kirckof - Approved
Melvin B. and Grace Kirckof, Henning, MN, requested a variance to subdivide a .21 acre parcel from an
existing tract of approximately 1.69 acres for attachment to the front lake lots. The property is
described as part of Government Lot 5, Section 17 of Leaf Lake Township by West Leaf Lake. Gerald
and Elaine Carlson represented the applicant at the public hearing. The audience was polled with no
one speaking for or against the request. After consideration, motion was made by David Holmgren,
seconded by John Everts and unanimously carried, to approve the variance as requested with the
condition that a registered surveyor’s drawing must be provided at the time of conveyance.
Blaine A and Catherine V Piper - Denied
Blaine A and Catherine V. Piper, Erhard, MN, requested a variance of 7’ from the required lot line
setback of 10’ and a variance of 65’ from the required ordinary high water level setback of 100’ for the
enclosure of a porch with screens/windows and two doors and also for repair of the roof located
approximately 3’ from the lot line and approximately 35’ from the ordinary high water level. The
property is described as part of Government Lot 1, Section 10 of Elizabeth Township by Long Lake.
The audience was polled with David Houge speaking for the request. After consideration, motion was
made by David Holmgren, seconded by Mark Steuart and unanimously carried, to deny the variance as
requested noting that no substantial changes have been made to the applicant’s request since it was
last considered in October of 1998.

Allen Chase, Battle Lake, MN, requested an “ addition to restaurant to enclose walk-in coolers and
freezers 24’ X 28’” and “new construction within 88’ of the lake”. The property is described as Lots 1, 2,
3, 4, Ethel Beach and part of Government Lot 5, Section 4 of Girard Township by Lake Ethel. The
audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the request. After consideration, motion was
made by Randall Mann, seconded by Cecil Femling and unanimously carried, to approve the variance
as requested noting that it would be no closer to the ordinary high water level than the existing
structure.
