(316) 682-7971 February 24, 1995 Mr. Les Estes Otter Tail Co. Planning Com. Chmn. Shoreland Management Otter Tail County Fergus Falls, MN 56537 Camp o£ the Master - Sheldon Tornquist, Conditional Use RequestRe: Dear Mr. Estes: We are unable to attend the meeting on March 1, 1995 regarding the above Request for Conditional Use, as we reside in Kansas for most of the year, but our property adjoins the Tornquist property on the west and we are vitally interested. We are wondering if this request is an effort to open their property to development. The Tornquists some time ago succeeded in getting their property removed from the tax rolls on the grounds it was a religious organi zation. For a few years, children were brought there to camp out. None seem evident for the past few years. A number of years ago, I visited the camp and the camp had a chapel. The Tornquists disregarded the law and built a structure at the water's edge and were told later by Shoreland Management to remove the structure and restore the bank to its former condition. I don't know if they have complied with that requirement. For the last two years they have invited numerous people in the vicinity to come to visit their "new" chapel. Now, it is said, they want permission to build a chapel. Does this mean they want to build a third chapel? Does it mean they want a variance from the land use regulations? Your notice did not explain any of this. Until they make a disclosure of their plans and wliat land use they would entail, I request their Request be denied or postponed to a later time so that more information would be forthcoming and a decision’fair to all on the north shore of East Leaf Lake and con sistent with the land use regulations be made.
