Terry and Janet Amundson - Approved the variance as requested with a condition. (8:22 p.m.)
Terry and Janet Amundson, Lot 13 Olson’s Maplewood-Lida Beach First Addition, South Lake Lida in Lida Township,
requested the following: Our existing building is set 4’ from south property line. We wish to add an 8' by 24’ addition
to west side of building and a 24’ by 24’ garage attached to addition. The tie-in of existing roof to new addition will be
closer than the 75’ rule and the new addition and garage will be built 8’ from south property line with the overhang
being 7’ from line. In order to have sidewalk and proper width driveway, we respectfully, request permission to build
on or use 28% of property instead of 25%. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the variance
as requested. After consideration, Steve Schierer made a motion, second by Michael Harris and unanimously carried,
to approve the proposed development as described in the application dated July 11, 2008 and as depicted on the
drawing submitted with the variance application with the condition that no more than 25% of the total eligible lot area
can be covered with impervious surfaces. It was noted that the proposed addition will be farther from the lot line than
the existing cabin. Practical difficulty/hardship is a substandard lot of record and the terrain of the applicants'
property.
Bob J. and Jacqueline M. Hegg, - Approved the variance with a condition. (8:30 p.m.)
Bob J. and Jacqueline M. Hegg, part of Government Lots 4 and 5, Section 3 of Star Lake Township by Star Lake,
requested a variance of 27’ from the required ordinary high water level setback of 75’ for the construction of a 46’ by
92’ (irregular shaped) addition to the existing house along with a 28’ by 40’ attached garage. A portion of the existing
house will be removed to accommodate the proposed addition. Also requesting a 2’ variance from the required shore
impact zone setback of 50’. The proposed addition will be no closer than the existing home to the ordinary high water
level. Steve Rose, Architect, appeared with the applicants at the public hearing. The audience was polled with no
one speaking for or against the variance as requested. After consideration, Steve Schierer made a motion, second by
Carl Zick and unanimously carried, to approve the proposed development/remodeling with the condition that no
portion of the proposed development/remodeling can be within the shore impact zone. All new construction and
remodeling must be setback at least 50’ from the ordinary high water level. Practical difficulty/hardship is the terrain
of the applicants’ property.
Allen Chase - Approved with condition. (8:37 p.m.)
Allen Chase, part of Government Lots 8 and 9, Section 6 of Sverdrup Township by Pleasant Lake, requested the
following: 1.) Setback variance to allow 11 RV sites to be less than the required 100’ from the ordinary high water
setback to the closer 60’ and 2.) Expand from 27 units to 42 units. All units in 1®‘ tier. A total of 51 units allowed in
tiers 1,2, and 3. Tier 1 allows 27 units. While moving 7 existing sites to meet setbacks. Removing 2 cabins that
don’t meet setbacks and replacing with 1 cabin that will meet setbacks. The audience was polled with nine individuals
expressing concerns with the variance as requested. The concerns stated were with the density of the proposed
development and with the location of the units. An email from Joel and Susan Reimers expressing concerns with
the variance as requested was read for the record. A letter from Barbara and Allan Dummer in opposition to the
variance as requested was noted for the record. After significant discussion and consideration, Steve Schierer made
a motion second by Michael Harris and carried with Robert Schwartz voting no, to allow 11 of 18 existing RV sites to
remain in locations which are setback less than the required 100’, but which are at least 60’ from the ordinary high
water level with the condition that the other 7 non confirming RV sites must be placed at least 100’ from the ordinary
high water level. It should be noted that the Board of Adjustment did not grant a variance to allow more units in the
first tier then what is currently allowed by the ordinance or a variance to increase the number of units for this
development. It should also be noted that the applicant does not need to use the variance as approved by the Board
of Adjustment if his application to the Planning Commission is not approved.

Ordinance. This is an existing garage which was built in 1990. The garage was properly permitted and inspected by
the Land and Resource Department at the time of construction. We feel it would be more harmful to the environment
to move the garage than to leave it in its current location. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or
against the variance as requested. After consideration, Michael Harris made a motion, second by Steve Schierer and
unanimously carried, to approve the variance as requested and as described in the variance application dated July
17, 2008. It should be noted that the variance as approved will provide the applicants with the ability to enjoy the
same rights and privileges as others in this immediate area.
