MAURICE BALTES - DENIED
Maurice Baltes, Alexandria, MN, requested a variance to have a lot In a proposed Auditor's
Subdivision 1 M with 143' of lake frontage Instead of the required 200' of frontage. The
property is described as Lot 1 of the proposed Auditor's Subdivision -^114, Dead Lake in Dead
Lake Township. A letter from Terry Lejcher Indicating no objections was read for the record.
Mike Nyberg, Surveyor for the project, and Paul Leonard, Taylor Investment Corporation,
represented the applicant at the hearing. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or
against the request. After consideration, motion was made by Craig Anderson, seconded by Cecil
Femling and unanimously carried, to deny the variance as requested. No adequate hardship has
been shown and an adequate solution does exist that would allow each of the six lots to have at
least 200' of water frontage as required.

JOHN BARRY - APPROVED
John Barry, Newport, MN, requested the following variances; a 14' variance In height to make
the size and design concepts work, an 11' variance In height for the construction of two gazebos
and a variance to cover the walkway to one of the gazebos. The property Is described as Lots 7
through 11, Sunlight Hills, Pelican Lake In Dunn Township. A letter from David Kaldahl In
favor of the applicant's request was read for the record, Frank Hanson, Construction Manager,
represented Mr. Barry at the hearing. Mr. Hanson Indicated that the variance request for a
covered walkway to one of the gazebos Is being dropped and the Board does not need to consider
that request. Mr. Hanson indicated that when construction Is completed a garage, carport and
outhouse will be removed. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the
request. After consideration, motion was made by John Everts, seconded by Dan Oehler and
unanimously carried, to approve the applicant's first request, which would allow the single
family dwelling to have a height of 44', a variance of 14' from the allowable maximum height of
30', This portion of the applicant's request was granted as it would allow the applicant to
maintain the balance and design concept of an unusually large structure, which Is being spread
over 5 lots with 356' of frontage. The structure Is not out of proportion for this size of a lot
and at the time the shoreland ordinance was adopted this size and type of home was probably not
even perceived. After additional consideration, motion was made by Victor Petterson, seconded
by Craig Anderson and unanimously carried, to deny the applicant's request for two gazebos and
to only allow one gazebo, which meets the requirements of the shoreland ordinance, with the
condition that what Is presently known as the fort and deck will be removed.

Contractor, represented the applicant at the hearing. The audience was polled with no one
speaking for or against the request. After consideration, motion was made by Craig Anderson,
seconded by John Everts and unanimously carried, to approve a 2' variance from the' required
1 O' side lot line setback with the condition that the addition be no closer to the lake than the
existing structure. Hardship being the unique shape of the lot.
