Roberta 1.. Lovell - Variance application approved as modified with condition. (8:35 p.m.)
Roberta L. Lovell, Lot 23 Bowery Beach First Addition, Pelican Lake in Dunn I'ownship, requested the following: In order to
eliminate three sheds within 2’ of their western property line the owner would like to construct a 16’ by 24’ garage within 8’ of
the road-right-way instead of the required 20’ setback. They would also request a variance of 2.7% overage on the
building/impervious surface ordinance of 25% to 27.7%. Jon Anderson represented the applicant at the public hearing. The
audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the variance as requested. A letter form Charles H Grotte, Assistant
County Engineer requesting the denial of the variance as requested was read for the record. After discussion and consideration,
Paul Larson made a motion, seconded by Thomas Lee and unanimously carried, to approve a variance of 6’ from the required
road right-of-way setback of 20’ for the placement of a garage 14’ from the road right-of-way at it closest point with the condition
that no more than 25% of the total lot area can be covered with impervious surfaces.
Clary and Kodell Stompro - Denied. (8:45 p.m.)
Gary and Kodell Stompro, Lot 1 Block 1 Plainview Sandy Beach Third Addition, Little McDonald Lake in Edna Township,
requested the following: variance of 10’ from road right-of-way for placement of new shed 10’ from road right-of-way. The
audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the variance as requested. Kelli Wegseheid represented the applicants at
the public hearing. After discussion and consideration, Paul Larson made a motion, seconded by Jack Rosenthal and unanimously
carried, to deny the variance as requested as no adequate hardship unique to the property had been shown that would allow for the
granting of the variance as requested, the applicants have another alternative available that will provide them with a reasonable
use of their property.
Vale Dietz - Variance application approved as requested. (8:52 p.m.)
Val Dietz, Lot 16 Block 2, Cair’s Subdivision, Otter Tail Lake in Amor Township, requested the following: Lot 16 is
substandard by today’s standards, not meeting the square footage requirement as a back lot to Otter Tail Lake. Person wishing to
purchase the lot wishes to put up a small dwelling for more room when children and grandchildren come to visit as he has only a
45’ lot on Otter Tail Lake. Building will have sewer and water. Request to have Lot 16 considered buildable for residential
purposes. Minimum requirements for a non-riparian lot are 150’ lot width and 40,000 square feet of area. Paula Dietz appeared
with the applicant at the public hearing. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the variance as requested.
After discussion and consideration, Steve Schierer made a motion, second by Jack Rosenthal and unanimously carried, to declare
Lot 16 Block 2 Can ’s Subdivision a buildable lot for residential puiposes. It was noted that the variance is consistent with past
Board of Adjustment decisions and if also consistent with how other properties in this immediate area are being used.
Big Pine Lodge - Revised Plan Approved. (8:55 p.m.)
Big Pine Lodge, part of Government Lot 1, Section 17 of Pine Lake Township by Big Pine Lake, requested the following:
1. Proposing to add 24 campsites with the closest campsite being 10’ from the lot line. The required setback is 50’ and the
closet campsite to the lake will be 15 - 20’. Required setback is 75’.
2. Also requesting a variance to the easement road with the closet campsite being approximately 10’ from easement road.
Required setback is 20'.
3. Proposing to relocate an existing shed to south side of the property which will be used as a fish cleaning facility. The
structure will be approximately 10’ from lot line and 10’ from the easement road. Required setbacks are 50’ from lot line
and 20’ from easement road.
Please note cabins 1, 2, and 3 will be removed and replaced with 4 campsites. September 8, 2016 Meeting - Joe Harlow
represented the applicant at the public hearing. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the variance as
requested. After discussion and consideration, Paul Larson made a motion, seconded by Rick Wilson, to deny the variance as
requested and to allow replacement of Cabins 1, 2 and 3 with four campsites. After additional discussion and consideration this
motion was withdrawn. A motion was then offered by Thomas Lee, seconded by Rick Wilson and unanimously carried to table,
with the applicant’s verbal pemiission, this public hearing until the next scheduled meeting of the Board of Adjustment to allow

RE: Right of Way Setback - Variance for Garage
CSAH No. 20
21822 Co Hwy20
Dear Wayne:
The garage should be constructed with the required 20’ setback from the County State Aid
Highway right of way line. The existing highway right of way at this parcel is currently only
41 feet from the centerline of CSAH 20, thus the new garage would be less than 48 feet from
the highway centerline. The 8 foot setback shown on the drawing provided by the applicant is
errant in that the highway right of way setback should be measured perpendicular to the
highway centerline not the proposed garage. As drawn the highway right of way setback is
only 7’.
If you have any questions or require additional information on this matter, please feel free to
contact me at any time.
