Kausler Investigations September 30, 1986 To: Otter Tail County Planning Commission Reference: Gontarek Store Restaurant It has come to my attention that a restaurant is being considered for the Gontarek location on Pelican Lake. While I am in favor of improvements and new business within our County, I feel this matter needs careful consideration for the sake of traffic safety. We have always had some complaints about fast traffic from the east entering this 40 mph zone at and above 55 mph and the road is quite narrow at this point. Additional cars parked along here or backing out onto the highway will be a definite hazard unless the road could be widened on the north side. Also, it has been my observation that beer or liquor is soon requested in eating establishments and a little of that goes a long way in causing poor judgment in vehicle operation. Unless the road design is changed, widened or completely off road parking is provided for 25 cars, I feel this request should be denied.
