Marc Shannon - Tabled
Marc Shannon, Fargo, ND, requested a variance of 16’ from the required road right-of-\way setback of
20’ for the construction of a 38’ by 24’ garage 4’ from the road right-of-way or 4’ from the assumed
property line. The property is described as Lot 6, Jerry-Marg Beach Second Addition, Lake Seven in
Hobart Township. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the request. After
consideration, motion was made by Randall Mann, seconded by David Holmgren and unanimously
carried, to table this variance request until the September 3, 1998 Board of Adjustment meeting to allow
the applicant an opportunity to consider other alternatives.
Fred and Lana Larson - Withdrawn
Fred and Lana Larson, Battle Lake, MN, requested a variance of 33’ from the required ordinary high
water level setback of 100’ for screening and roofing an existing deck 67’ from the ordinary high water
level. The property is described as Lots 21 and 22 and an interest in Lot 11, Timberlane Hills, Otter Tail
River in Everts Township. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the request.
Randall Mann indicated that he would be abstaining from any action taken on this request. After
consideration and discussion the applicants decided to withdraw their variance application.
C. Maureen Torphy - Approved
C. Maureen Torphy, Madison, Wl, requested a variance of 4’ from the required lot line setback of 10’ for
the construction of a 24’ by 24’ garage 6’ from the side lot line. The property is described as Lot 5,
Block 4, Crystal Lida Beaches, Lake Crystal in Lida Township. The audience was polled with no one
speaking for or against the request. A letter from Holly Beattie in favor of the applicant’s request was
read for the record. After consideration, motion was made by John Everts, seconded by Cecil Femling
and unanimously carried, to approve a variance of 2’ from the required lot line setback of 10’ and a
variance of 2’ from the required septic tank setback of 10’ for the placement of a 24’ by 24’ garage 8’
form the lot line and 8’ from the septic tank. Hardship is a substandard lot of record. It was noted that
the granting of this variance would not establish precedence for this immediate area.
Sadie Haarstick - Approved
Sadie Haarstick, Pelican Rapids, MN, requested a variance “to split existing lot into two lots with 150 ft
frontage on one and 210 ft on the other. Both lots will be conforming with about 40,000 sq. ft. in each.
Wish to avoid the platting procedure.” The property is described as a tract in Government Lot 3,
Section 16 of Dunn Township by Fish Lake. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or
against the request. After consideration, motion was made by John Everts, seconded by George
Walter and unanimously carried, to approve the metes and bounds subdivisions as requested noting
that no additional subdivision of this property will be allowed and noting that a registered surveyor’s
drawing will be provided at the time of conveyance. It was noted that both parcels will have access to a
public road and that both parcels meet the required size standards for platted lots.
