SPECIFY VARIANCE REQUESTED
We would like to build a new cottage that will replace the existing,,
cottage that no longer meets the needs of our family. The existing
cottage's wood deck is 32' from the lake front. Our new cottage is
placed in a way that will reuse the existing drive and not impact the
bluff that is in back of the cottage. In doing this, we will encroach
on the 75' Lake Front set back requirement by only 8'. This is an
improvement of 35' from the existing condition.
We request a variance on the set back requirement to allow us to build

I UNDERSTAND THAT I HAVE APPLIED FOR A VARIANCE FROM THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE SHORELAND
MANAGEMENT ORDINANCE/SUBDIVISION CONTROLS ORDINANCE OF OTTER TAIL COUNTY.

Jay O and Marietta E Turner - Approved a modified variance. (8:05 p.m.)
May 6, 2004 meeting -The applicants were represented by John Gunkelman, Contractor and by Terry Stroh,
Architect. Chairman Mann polled the audience with no one speaking for or against the variance as requested. After
discussion and consideration, Randall Mann made a motion, second by Steve Schierer and unanimously carried, with
the verbal permission of the applicants’ representatives, to table this variance application hearing until the May 13,
2004 meeting to allow time for an on-site visit by the Land and Resource Department with the applicants and/or the
applicants’ representatives to discuss how close the proposed structure can be placed to the toe of the bluff. May 13,
2004 meeting - The applicants we^e represented by John Gunkelman, Contractor and by Terry Stroh, Architect.
After additional discussion and consideration, Cecil Femling made a motion, second by Robert Schwartz and
unanimously carried, to approv^ Variance of 4’ from the required ordinary high water level setback of 75’ for the
location of a buil^g site 7T from the SfdTt^ry high water level with the condition that the existing dwelling must be
removed prior td the issuar)Ce c^SKsrte/derjtrit^for the^qposed development. The Board noted that the proposed development Would bedasianiftc^t irTiorovementr^H^stftB'tSthe t^ain of the applicants’ property.
