John N. Kouri - Denied
John N. Kouri, Minneapolis, MN, requested a variance of 4’ from the required road right-of-way setback
of 20’ for the construction of an addition to an existing garage 16’ from the road right-of-wa^. The
property is described as Lot 4, Sherbrooke Estates, South Lake Lida in Lida Township. The audience
was polled with no one speaking for or against the request. After consideration, motion was made by
George Walter, seconded by John Everts and unanimously carried, to deny the variance as requested
as no adequate hardship had been shown. It was noted that the applicant has a large lot that should
allow for development without the need of a variance.
Jerald and Sandra L. Crawford - Withdrawn
Jerald A. and Sandra L. Crawford, Battle Lake, MN, requested a variance of 38’ 4” from the required
side lot line setback of 40’ for the replacement of 8’ by 8’ storage shed, with a new 8’ by 8’ storage shed
(water - oriented accessory structure) approximately 1 ’ 8” from the side lot line. The property is
described as Lot 16, Van Santen’s Beauty Beach, Eagle Lake in Eagle Lake Township. The audience
was polled with no one speaking for or against the request. A letter from Harvey Lorentz in favor of the

deny the variance as requested. After additional discussion and consideration, Cecil Femling withdrew
his motion and the applicants were allowed to withdraw their application for variance.
Sam C. Lykken - Approved
Sam C. Lykken, Battle Lake, MN, requested a variance to subdivide a 1.34-acre parcel from an existing
parcel of approximately 186 acres. The property is described as part of the Southwest Quarter of the
Northeast Quarter and part of the Northwest Quarter of the Southeast Quarter, Section 1 of Clitherall.
Township by West Battle Lake. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the
request. After consideration, motion was made by Randall Mann, seconded by David Holmgren and
unanimously carried, to approve the subdivision of a 1.34-acre parcel from an existing parcel of
approximately 186 acres with the condition that a registered surveyor’s drawing must be provided. It

Re: Replacement of e.xisting storage shed
Lot 16
Van Santen’s Beauty Beach
Eagle Lake, Otter Tail County, MN
To Whom It May Concern:
Last fall we contacted your office in regards to replacement of the above referenced storage shed on our
lake lot. While we were told that we could make repairs to maintain our existing shed, the fact is that the
original shed was not built of quality materials and even the basic structure would be better off to be
replaced, if possible.
What we would ask is to apply for a variance to actually replace the existing shed with a better quality shed
of the same size that we would purchase already built at a local lumber yard and have placed on the
existing concrete slab, following our removal of the existing shed.
We enclose photos and a “rough sketch” showing not only our gray shed, but the sheds of three of our
neighbors, illustrating the fact that what we propose would not be out of character with the buildings
already in place on our lakeshore.
I. Sandra Crawford, will arrive in Minnesota for the summer season on May 4* and would request that 1 be
scheduled to appear before the aj^ropriate committee to request a variance allowing us to complete the
work of replacing our shed during this coming summer. After May 4* 1 can be reached at (218) 747-2534
or at my local mailing address of Sandra Crawford, RRl, Box 1638, Battle Lake, MN 56515.1 may also be
reached at (218) 747-2885, my mother’s phone, as 1 will be spending a great deal of time at her home in
spring and early summer.
Please advise me as to the date of the scheduled hearing and the fee that I must submit to aii^ly for this
variance. 1 appreciate your cooperation in this regard.
Sincerely,
Jerald A Crawford and Sandra L. Crawford
