Motion
Motion was made by John Everts, seconded by Randall Mann to approve the enclosing of the existing
deck with the condition that impervious surface coverage must be no more than 25% of the total lot
area. It was noted that no adequate hardship had been shown that would permit this change in use
and at the same time allow the applicant to cover more than 25% of his total lot area with impervious
surfaces. No action was taken on the motion and after additional discussion and consideration, the
applicant requested permission to withdraw his variance application. The Board of Adjustment
acknowledged jand accepted this request.

Thomas Posey - Approved
Thomas Posey, Pelican Rapids, MN, requested a variance of 11’ from the required road right-of-way
setback of 20’ for the placement of a 24’ by 24’ garage 9’ from the road right-of-way. The property is
described as part of Government Lot 2, Section 27 of Lida Township by Lake Lida. Letters from Virlyn
and Delores Strander, Everett Johnson and Darnell Lundstrom in favor of the variance request ware
read for the record. A letter from Carl Johnson, Lida Town Board Chairman, stating that the road is not
a township road and indicating no problems with the placement of the applicant’s garage was read for
the record. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the request. After
consideration, motion was made by Craig Anderson, seconded by John Everts and unanimously
carried, to approve a variance of 1T from the required road right-of-way setback of 20’ for the location
of an existing 24’ by 24’ garage 9’ from the road right-of-way with the condition that by July 1, 1998 the
ingress and egress to the garage must be placed in a location that will allow the applicant the ability to
back out of the garage onto his own property and to drive forward out onto the public highway. It was
noted that this is perhaps the best location on the applicant’s lot for a garage.
Dave Wicklund and Don Johnson - Approved
Dave Wicklund and Don Johnson, Detroit Lakes, MN, requested a variance of 8' from the required 18’
maximum height of a non-dwelling structure for the construction of a 60’ by 104 pole building and for
the construction of a 56’ by 72’ pole building each having a maximum height of 26’. The property is
described as part of Government Lot 4, Section 9 of Dunn Township by Pelican Lake. The audience
was polled with no one speaking for or against the request. After consideration, motion was made by
Randall Mann, seconded by Cecil Femling and unanimously carried, to approve a variance of 8’ from
the required 18’ maximum height of a non-dwelling structure for the construction of a 60’ by 104’ pole
building and for the construction of a 56’ by 72’ pole building each having a maximum height of 26’. It
was noted that neither of these structure would obstruct the view of the neighboring properties, that
neither structure will have a second story, that both structures are setback quite a distance from the
ordinary high water level and that the structures will be constructed using truss rafters.
laniel A. Schmitz - Withdrawn
Daniel A. Schmitz, Perham, MN, requested a variance to cover 27.7% of the total lot area with
impervious surfaces. The maximum allowable impervious surface coverage is 25%. The property is

no one speaking for or against the request. After consideration, motion was made by John Everts,

impervious surface coverage must be no more than 25% of the total lot area. It was noted that no
adequate hardship had been shown that would permit this change in use and a: the same time allow
the applicant to cover more than 25% of his total lot area with impervious surfaces. No action was
taken on the motion and after additional discussion and consideration, the applicant requested
permission to withdraw his variance application. The Board of Adjustment acknowledged and accepted
