Mark Stephen Walz - Approved
Mark Stephen Walz, Perham, MN, requested a variance to add a second story to the entire cabin and
attached garage, starting 10’ from the front (lakeside) of the cabin, and a variance to extend the north
end of the attached garage 8’. The garage extension will be 6’ from the west lot line requiring a
variance of 4’. The current setbacks from the west lot line are 25’ at the front corner (southwest) of the
cabin, 8’ at the rear corner of the main cabin and 7’ from the northwest corner of the existing garage.
Currently 27% of the total lot area is covered with impervious materials. After the addition to the
existing garage 28% of the total lot area will be covered with impervious materials. The applicant is
also requesting a variance of 3% from the maximum allowable impervious surface coverage of 25%.
The property is described as part of Government Lot 2, Section 26 of Gorman Township by Little Pine
Lake. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the request. After consideration,
motion was made by John Everts, second by Randall Mann and unanimously carried, to approve the
second story addition and the garage extension with the following conditions:
1. the garage extension can be no closer to the lot line than the nearest point of the existing garage,
which is 7’, and
2. no more than 25% of the total lot area can be covered with impervious surfaces after the proposed
changes have been made.
It should be noted that no part of the proposed development will be any closer to the lot line or the
ordinary high water level than the existing structure. Hardship is a substandard lot of record and the
biased lot lines. .
Bob and Joyce Albright - Denied
Bob and Joyce Albright, Barnesville, MN, requested a variance to build a residential structure, with
attached garage, within a 30’ by 80’ rectangular area. The area involved is setback 100’ from Big
McDonald Lake, but partially within the 100’ setback from a bay on McDonald Lake. A portion of the
area is approximately 90’ from the bay on McDonald Lake. Requesting a variance of approximately 10’
from the required ordinary high water level setback of 100’. The property is described as Lot 2, Block 1,
McDonald Shores First Addition, Big McDonald Lake in Edna Township. The audience was polled with
no one speaking for or against the request. After consideration, motion was made by Mark Steuart,
second by Cecil Femling and unanimously carried, to deny the variance as requested and to support
the action previously taken by the Board of Adjustment on July 1,1993.
ennis Tetens - Approved

is described as Lot 2 and part of Lot 3, Pleasant View Beach and part of Government Lot 1, Section 24
of Girard Township by East Battle Lake. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against
the request. After consideration, motion was made by John Everts, second by David Holmgren and
unanimously carried, to approve a variance of 6’ from the required lot line setback of 10’ for the
construction of a second story to an existing cabin, which is 4’ from the lot line. It should be noted that
the second story is behind the string line. Hardship is a substandard lot of record.
