Laura Voll - Denied
Motion was made by Steve Schierer to approve the proposed structure being no closer to the ordinary high water level
than what would be permitted by|the string line as established by the Land and Resource Department with the
condition that the two existing dvyelling must be removed before a site permit can be issued. There was no call for a
second to this motion. After additional discussion, motion was made by Steve Schierer, to approve the variance as requested with the condition thatjan existing boathouse must be removed before a site permit can be issued. This
motion died for the lack of a second. After additional discussion and consideration, motion was made by Cecil
Femling, second by Mark Steuart and unanimously carried, to deny the variance as requested noting that no hardship
unique to the property had been shown that would allow for the granting of the variance.

Laura Voll, Henning, MN, requested a variance of 34’ from the required ordinary high water level
setback of 100’ for the placement of dwelling, with an attached porch, 66’ from the ordinary high water
level. The property is described as Lots 10 and 11, Block A, Hursh’s First Addition to Linden Park, East
Battle Lake in Girard Township. The applicant’s grandson appeared along with the applicant at the
public hearing. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the request. It was noted
that the office had received a call from Edith Jurs indicating her approval of the applicant’s requested
variance. After consideration, motion was made by Steve Schierer to approve the proposed structure
being no closer to the ordinary high water level than what would be permitted by the string line as
established by the Land and Resource Department with the condition that the two existing dwelling
must be removed before a site permit can be issued. There was no call for a second to this motion.

Gordon and Joan Jackson - Approved with condition.
Gordon and Joan Jackson, Woodbury, MN, requested a variance of 15’ from the required ordinary high
water level setback of 75’ for a 32’ by 32’ addition to an existing log cabin 60’ from the ordinary high
water level. The applicants’ will be removing an existing 22’ by 40’ cabin on the adjacent lot, which was
just recently purchased, to make room for the proposed 32’ by 32’ addition to their existing log cabin
and they are also willing to remove a 14’ by 20’ guest house located near the water’s edge. The
property is described as part of Government Lot 5, Section 27 of Lida Township by Lake Lida. The
audience was polled with Wes Tweeton, Contractor, speaking for the variance as requested. After
consideration, motion was made by Steve Schierer, second by Cecil Femling and unanimously carried,
to approve a variance of 15’ from the required ordinary high water level setback of 75’ for a 32’ by 32’
addition to an existing log cabin located 60’ from the ordinary high water level with the condition that
before a site permit for the proposed addition can be issued the existing 22’ by 40’ cabin on the
adjacent lot and the existing 14’ by 20’ guest house located near the water’s edge must be removed.
Hardship is a substandard lot of record. It was noted that the applicants’ proposal will be a significant
improvement over the existing situation and that the applicants will be taking appropriate steps to
prevent erosion during demolition and construction.
