Judith A Lien - Denied as requested. Approve lot combination. (8:00 p.m.)
Judith A. Lien, Fergus Falls, MN, requested a variance to have Parcel D of Outlet A declared a buildable lot
and a variance of 4’ from the required side lot line setback of 10’ for the placement of a 24’ by 40’ storage
building 6’ from the lot line. The property is described as the westerly 113.82’ of the easterly 415.16’ of
Outlot A, aka Parcel D of Outlot A, Heikes Heights, Long Lake in Elizabeth Township. Thomas Lien also
appeared with the applicant at the public hearing. The audience was polled with JoAnn Moerke and Larry
Mertz seeking additional information regarding the variance as requested. After discussion and
consideration, motion was made by Steve Schierer, second by Cecil Femling and unanimously carried, to
deny the variance as requested, but to approve the permanent attachment of Parcel D of Outlot A, Heikes
Heights, to that part of Lot 19, Claude Moody’s Beach as currently owned by Judith A Lien and to allow for
the placement of a 24’ by 40’ structure on Parcel D of Outlot A, Heikes Heights with the condition that all
other setback requirements must be met. It should be noted that the side lot line variance as requested is
no longer needed once the above referenced parcels are permanently combined.
Ervin and Lorraine Peine - Approved as modified and with conditions. (8:15 p.m.)
Ervin and Lorraine Peine, Richville, MN, requested a variance of 8’ from the required south side lot line
setback of 10’ for the placement of an addition to an existing bedroom 2’ from the lot line and a variance of
.9% from the maximum allowable impervious surface coverage of 25% for total impervious surface
coverage of 25.9%. The property is described as Lot 10, Klein and Adams Point, Marion Lake in Dead
Lake Township. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the request. After discussion
and consideration, motion was made by Paul Larson, second by Steve Schierer and unanimously carried
to approve a variance of 5' from the required south side lot line setback of 10’ for the placement of an
addition to an existing bedroom 5’ from the side lot line with the condition that no more than 25% of the
total lot area can be covered with impervious surfaces and with the condition that an existing 6’ by 8’ shed
must be removed prior to a site permit being issued for the new addition.
David Gilbertson - Approved as requested. (8:21 p.m.)
David Gilbertson, Fergus Falls, MN, requested a variance of 3’ from the 20’ maximum allowable height of a
non-dwelling structure for the construction of a 56’ by 80’ pole building having an overall height of 23’. The
property is described as a 12.32 acre parcel in the Northwest Quarter of the Northwest Quarter, Section 32
of Aastad Township by an unnamed lake. The audience was polled with Jim Bergerud speaking for the
variance as requested. After discussion and consideration, motion was made by Steve Schierer, second by
Paul Larson and unanimously carried, to approve a variance of 3’ from the 20’ maximum allowable height
of a non-dwelling structure for the construction of a 56’ by 80’ pole building having an overall height of 23’.
It was noted that the proposed building is shorter than other existing building on this farm site.
Edwin L and Naomi L McLaughlin - Denied impervious surface calculation request and approved,
with modification, the drain field setback request (8:26 p.m.)
Edwin L. and Naomi L. McLaughlin, Fargo, ND, requested the following; “I would like to use both lots as
one because of a small lot hardship. The people for 2 lots on either side of me got to use both lots as one
for sq. feet. I also would like to put my septic tank on or near the road right of way line. My drain field next
to or near the west line on by back lot. I have a letter from Ed stating he would let me put it next to the line
and also next to the road right of way. Two variances requested: 1. Impervious surface calculation to
include total area of both lots and 2. drain field to be zero ft or on the lot line (West). We purchased the
back lot with the understanding it could be included in the calculation of impervious surface for the lake lot.
Neighbors used the back lots for this purpose." The property is described as Lot 6, Jacob’s Beach and Lot
6, Block 1, Prairie Ridge, Prairie Lake in Pelican Township. The audience was polled with Ed Schenatzki
and Roger Anderson speaking for the variance as requested. After discussion and consideration, motion
was made by Randall Mann, second by Steve Schierer and unanimously carried, to deny the applicants the
ability to use the area contained within the back lot when determining the amount of impervious surface
coverage for the front lot and to approve the placement of the proposed drain field, on the back lot, 5’ from
the side lot line and 5’ from the 26’ by 32’ garage.
