On May 20, 1991 I placed a call to the Wetland Management
office at Fergus Falls to inquire if I would need a permit
to get our yard ready to put in underground sprinklers, seed
and sod.
had mountains of peat that came from the site where our house
sits,that the yard between the house and the lake was uneven
with ripples and the yard between the house and the road was
all fill that needed to be leveled.
I explained the present state of the yard, that we
I explained that we would level, spread the peat and mix it
with black dirt, in both the front and back yard. The person
I talked to askedif there were any big holes on the lakeside,
and there were not, and that we could not remove any trees
from the lakeshore. I told her we were not planning on
taking any trees out, and she explained that we could cut them
down and grind the stumps but not pull them out, if we did
anything.
I explained that I wanted to make sure that if we did need a
permit to get one, and that I did not want to get into a
problem later. She assured me that we would not get trouble
by not having a permit to prepare our yard for a lawn.
