Ronald & Cathy Bergen - Garage (Approved with condition) & Screen Porch (Approved with Modification)
Motion was made by John Everts, second by Cecil Femling and unanimously carried, to approve a variance of 12’
from the required ordinary high water level setback of 100’ for the construction of a 22’ by 34’ attached garage and
entry 88’ from the ordinary high water level with the condition that a shed located down by the water must be removed
before a site permit for the garage can be issued. After additional discussion and consideration, motion was made by
Randall Mann, second by David Holmgren and unanimously carried, to approve a variance of 32’ from the required
ordinary high water level setback of 100’ for the addition of a 12’ by 14’ screen porch to the north side of the existing -
dwelling 68’ from the ordinary high water level.

Ronald and Cathy Bergen, Detroit Lakes, MN, requested a variance of 42’ from the required ordinary high
water level setback of 100’ for the addition of a 12’ by 14’ screen porch to the north side of the existing
dwelling 58’ from the ordinary high water level and a variance of 12’ for the construction of an attached 22’
by 34’ garage and entry 88’ from the ordinary high water level. The property is described as part of
Government Lot 6, Section 10 of Hobart Township by Wimer Lake. The audience was polled with no one
speaking for or against the request. After consideration, motion was made by John Everts, second by
Cecil Femling and unanimously carried, to approve a variance of 12’ from the required ordinary high water
level setback of 100’ for the construction of a 22’ by 34’ attached garage and entry 88’ from the ordinary
high water level with the condition that a shed located down by the water must be removed before a site

Terry Dimmer - Denied
Terry Dimmer, Fargo, ND, requested a variance to allow 3 travel trailers to remain on existing site and to
allow two bedroom septic system (certified to remain as is. The property is described as a 4.2-acre tract in
Government Lot 10, Section 7 of Hobart Township by Seven (Scalp) Lake. The audience was polled with
no one speaking for or against the request. After consideration, motion was made by Mark Steuart, second
by Randall Mann and unanimously carried, to deny the variance as requested as no adequate hardship
had been shown.
Brad Dirkman - Denied
Brad Dirkman, Fergus Falls, MN, requested a variance to replace an attached 8’ by 22’ three season porch
with an attached 16’ by 22’ single story addition to the northwest side of the present structure. The
proposed addition will be approximately 92’ from the ordinary high water level. The property is described
as Lot 6 and the east one-half of Lot 7, Merz Addition, Long Lake in Elizabeth Township. The audience was
polled with no one speaking for or against the request. After consideration, motion was made by John
Everts, second by David Holmgren and unanimously carried, to deny the variance as requested as no
adequate hardship had been shown and a reasonable use of the applicant’s property can be obtained
without a variance. It was also noted that granting this variance would establish precedence.
