Enclosed axe copies of the data required to request a permit to .
build a cabin on my lot on Scalp Lake.56-358 RD in Otter Tail County.
As you will notice a variance will be necessary since the lot
has only 75' frontage on the lake. The enclosed plat indicates
establishment in March of I969.
I would also like to request a variance to locate the cabin
•less than 100 feet from the high water line.
I had a contractor dig out an axea along the slope in which I
intended to locate the:, cabin in the spring . of 1970. As it turned
out, I was not able to build at that time. The excavation and original
stakes are still in place which would have.located the cabin only.
30 feet from the lake shore. In view of subsequent shoreland manage
ment requirements , I would like to locate the building 75 feet.from
the high water line. This would still allow me to utilize part of the
basement area which was dug out in 1970.
Other important.reasons for requesting the variance include the
safety of my small children while swimming. (The 100 feet set back
would restrict the view of the beach area due to elevation and natural
vegetation to the extent that it would be a safety hazard);. utilization
of natural vegetation (trees) for shade and esthetic value of the
property when viewed from all sides.
The north 90 feet of the lot along the slope is covered with
mixed hardwoods'common to that area. The south half of the lot is
open and presently covered with a mixture of grasses and alfalfa.
There are three white oak trees along the south line next to the road.
