approximately 10’ from the required ordinary high water level setback of 100’ for the construction of an open
roofed porch along the west side of the existing dwelling, The property is described as part of Government Lot
5, Section 4 of Friberg Township on Tonseth Lake. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against
the request, After consideration, motion was made by John Everts, seconded by Bert Olson and unanimously
carried, to approve a variance of approximately 32' from the required ordinary high water level setback of
100' for a 24' addition on the north side of an existing dwelling and a variance of approximately 1 O' from the
required ordinary high water level setback of 100' for the construction of an open roofed porch along the west
side of the existing dwelling. The additions will be no closer to the lake than the existing structure and the

Roger W. Vettleson, Richville, MN, requested a variance from the ordinary high water level setback of 200'
and a variance from the shore impact zone setback of 100' for the issuance of a building permit that would
allow the construction of an attached 22' by 20' garage and for the construction of a 22' by 20' room addition
to the existing dwelling. The property is described as Lots 8 and 9, Lillis Survey Plat of Government Lots 1,2
and 3, Section 16 of Dead Lake Township on Dead Lake. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or
against the request. After consideration, motion was made by Craig Anderson, seconded by Cecil Fernling and
unanimously carried, to approve a variance from the required ordinary high water level setback of 200' and a
variance from the required shore impact zone setback of 100' for the construction of an attached 22' by 20'
garage and for a 22' by 20' room addition to the existing dwelling. These additions v/ill be no closer to the lake
than the existing structure and will not require a variance from the side lot line setbacks. Hardship being a
substandard lot of record.

Nathan and Ruth Hanson - Denied
Nathan and Ruth Hanson, American Falls, ID, requested a variance of approximately 80' from the required side
lot line setback of 90' and a variance of approximately 15' from the maximum height requirement of 10' for
the placement of a two story water - oriented accessory structure 1 O' from the side lot line and with a height
of 25'. The size of the structure is 12' by 12' at the base, with a second story that is 12' by 16'. The property
is described as part of the SE1 /4, Section 19 of Folden Township on an unnamed lake. The applicants were
represented at the hearing by Selmer Halvorson. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against
the request. The following individuals submitted letters in favor of the granting of this variance request: Paul
Halvorson, Ruth Hanson and Nathan Hanson. After consideration, motion was made by George Walter, seconded
by Craig Anderson and unanimously carried, to deny the variance request as no adequate hardship had been
shown and to allow the applicants until April 1st, 1994, to correct the situation.
Donald and Bernice Wadeson - Approved
Donald and Bernice Wadeson, Fargo, ND, requested a variance of 7' from the required side lot line setback of
1 O'; a variance of 5' from the required 1 O' septic tank setback and a variance of approximately 7' from the
required road right of way setback of 20' for the construction of a 24' by 28' garage, The property is
described as Sub Lot J of Government Lot 6, Section 2 of Scambler Township on Pelican Lake. The audience
was polled with no one speaking for or against the request. A letter from W. S. Engkjer in favor of the
granting of this variance request was read for the record. After consideration, motion was made by John
Everts, seconded by Craig Anderson and unanimously carried, to approve a variance of 5' from the required
side^lot line setback of 10' and a variance of 5' from the required 10' septic tank setback for the construction
of a 20' by 28' garage. No variance is required from the road right of way setback for this project. The
variance from the septic tank setback is being granted because the structure is not a dwelling. Hardship being
a substandard lot of record.

The Otter Tail County Board of Adjustment met Thursday, July 1 st, 1 993, with the following persons in

CALL TO ORDER - The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Chairman George Walter,
MINUTES APPROVED-June 10th, 1993
Hearing no corrections or additions the minutes of the June 10th, 1993 meeting were declared approved as
mailed.
The following variance requests were heard:
Brent D. Bertelsen - Approved
Brent D, Bertelsen, Fairmount, ND, requested a variance of 1 7' from the required side lot line setback of 65'
for the placement of a water - oriented accessory structure 48' from the side lot line. The property is
described as Lot 6, except the North 25' and all of Lots 7 and 8, Svensgaard Camp. Long Lake in Elizabeth
Township, The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the request, A letter from Shirley and
Willis Stelter in favor of the granting of this variance request was read for the record. After consideration,
motion was made by Craig Anderson, seconded by Cecil Femling and carried with John Everts voting no, to
approve a variance of 17' from the required side lot line setback of 65' for the placement of a water- oriented
accessory structure 48' from the side lot line. Hardship being a substandard lot of record. The placement of
this water oriented accessory structure is in substantial compliance with the ordinance.

for a second story addition to an existing cabin. Also, requested a variance of 7' from the required side lot line
setback of 1 O' for the construction of a 20' by 24' garage. The property is described as part of Government
Lot 1, Section 30 of Hobart Tov/nship on Long Lake, The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against
the request, A letter from Eugene and Rosemary Berthiaume in favor of the granting of this variance request
was read for the record. After consideration, motion was made by Dan Oehler, seconded by Craig Anderson and
unanimously carried, to approve a variance of approximately 67' from the required ordinary high water level
setback of 100'; a variance of approximately 1 7' from the required shore impact zone setback of 50' for a
second story addition to an existing cabin and a variance of 7' from the required side lot line setback of 10' for
the construction of a 20' by 24' garage. Hardship being a substandard lot of record and the terrain features of
the lot. The addition will be no closer to the lake than the existing structure. The location of the structure is
the best plan for the lot.I
