VARIANCE REQUESTED IS:
Request a 7 1/2 foot variance from the required lot line setback on the southerly property line to
replace a 12 X 20 utility structure with a 14 X 28 foot structure and a 2 foot variance from the
highway right of way. This structure will be attached to the dwelling.
Request a 1 foot variance from the north property line to build a 10 X 12 foot addition to the
dwelling.
We would like to add a screen porch to the front of our dwelling and request a 7 1/2 foot variance on
the south property line, a 1 foot variance on the north property line, and a 23 foot (approx.) variance
from the ordinary high water line.
We would like to add a second story to our dwelling (over the original dwelling and above the screen
porch

The following motions were made: 1.) Motion by Dan Oehler, seconded by John Everts and unanimously
carried, to deny the request for the addition of a screened in porch, 2.) Motion by Craig Anderson, seconded by
George Walter, to approve the side lot line and road right of way variances for the 14‘ by 28' addition to the
back of the existing dwelling. This addition would be no closer to the lot line or lake than the existing
structure. This motion failed to carried with Bert Olson, Cecil Femling and John Everts voting no, 3.) Motion
by Craig Anderson, seconded by George Walter and unanimously carried, to reconsider the side lot line and road
right of way variances for the 14' by 28' addition to the back of the existing dwelling, 4.) Motion by Craig
Anderson, seconded by George Walter and unanimously carried, to approve the variances from the side lot line
and road right of way for the construction of a 14' by 28' addition to the rear of the existing cabin with the
condition that the existing 12‘ by 20' storage shed will be removed. The granting of this variance will get the
existing shed off the road right of way, 5.) Motion by John Everts, seconded by Bert Olson and carried with
Craig Anderson voting no, to deny the variance request for the 10' by 12' addition as no adequate hardship had
been shown and the granting of this request will make the lot more substandard, and 6.) Motion by John
Everts, seconded by Cecil Femling and carried with Craig Anderson and George Walter voting no, to deny the
variance request for the second story addition as no adequate hardship had been shown and the granting of this
request will make the lot more substandard.

Dear Sirs:
It is certainly difficult to do any work on a property and stay within the codes when the
property is only 36 feet wide. My parents purchased this property in 1960 before matters of setbacks
were an issue. However, with time, things have changed and today it is important to control the type
of construction on lake property. We became the owners of this property in May of 1988.
Currently the utility structure is located approximately 3 feet onto the road right of way. This
structure is in a rather severe state of disrepair and rather than repair it where it stands we would like
to build a new structure and move away from the road right of way. We originally had decided to
move the structure about 14 feet closer to the dwelling but the structure would be closer than 10 feet
from the sewage tank. When we became aware of the fact that the Board of Adjustments has never
given a variance for setback from a sewage tank, we made plans to build the structure closer to the
dwelling. In order to meet with this setback requirement the utility shed was so close to the dwelling
that we decided to attach it to the dwelling. With such limited space on our lot we intend to use this
structure to store all water sports accessories, small fishing boat and trailer, and still have room for a
vehicle.
Our water supply well is currently located in this structure and in the process of gathering
information for the variance application I have discovered that their is a 50 foot setback from sewage
tanks for all wells. Obviously, we do not meet this setback and will have to relocate our well. We
have been in contact with the Minnesota Dept, of Health and will be working with them on this issue.
We have five children and simply need more room in our cottage to house our family. The dwelling
curmetly has two bedrooms and is veiy crowded. We hope that you would grant these variances so
that we may more fully enjoy our summer lake home.
