Robert and Judith Cole - Approved
Robert and Judith Cole, Ottertail, MN, requested a variance of 29’ from the required ordinary high water
level setback of 75’ for the construction of an attached double garage 46’ from the ordinary high water
level. It should be noted that a utility room will be constructed in the Northeast corner of the garage,
with entrance to utility room and house and the ceiling of the garage will be completely covered and
used for much needed storage. The property is described as Lot 7, Hawes Beach Addition, Buchanan
Lake in Otter Tail Township. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the request.
After consideration, motion was made by Craig Anderson, seconded by Randall Mann and unanimously
carried, to approve a variance of 29’ from the required ordinary high water level setback of 75’ for the
construction of an attached double garage 46’ from the ordinary high water level. It was noted that the
addition would be no closer to the ordinary high water level than the existing structure. Hardship is a
substandard lot of record.
George Hess - Approved
George Hess, Underwood, MN, requested a variance to subdivide Lot 1, Block 1, Birchwood Shores
Second Addition. Part of Lot 1, Block 1, Birchwood Shores Second Addition will be permanently
attached to that portion of Lot 1 Block 1, Birchwood Shores, which is presently owned by David Willey.
The remaining portion of Lot 1 Block 1, Birchwood Shores Second Addition will be permanently
attached to Lot 2, Block 1, Birchwood Shores Second Addition, which is presently owned by the
applicant. The property is described as Lot 1, Birchwood Shores Second Addition, Pickerel Lake in
Maine Township. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the request. A letter
from Jerome Klinnert in favor of the applicant’s request was read for the record. After consideration,
motion was made by John Everts, seconded by Joe Maske and unanimously carried to approve a
variance to subdivide Lot 1, Block 1, Birchwood Shores Second Addition as requested with the
conditions that part of Lot 1, Birchwood Shores Second Addition must be permanently attached to that
portion of Lot 1, Block 1, Birchwood Shores as presently owned by David Willey, that the remaining
portion of Lot 1 and all of Lot 2, Birchwood Shores Second Addition must be permanently attached to
that portion of Lot 1, Block 1, Birchwood Shores as presently owned by George Hess and that a
registered surveyor’s drawing must be provided when the subdivision is recorded. It was noted that the
granting of the variance does not create a substandard situation and the back lots will be permanently
attached to the lake lots.
Glen D. Shaw - Approved
Glen D. Shaw, Willmar, MN, requested a variance of 4’ from the required 18’ maximum height of a non
dwelling structure for the construction of a 40’ by 64’ steel building having a height of 22’. The property
is described as Government Lot 2, Section 8 of Star Lake Township by Star Lake. The audience was
polled with no one speaking for or against the request. After consideration, motion was made by Craig
Anderson, seconded by John Everts and unanimously carried, to approve a variance of 4’ from the
required 18’ maximum height of a non-dwelling structure for the construction of a 40’ by 64’ steel
building having an overall height of 22’ with the condition that truss rafters must be used in the
construction of the structure. It was noted that the proposed site is a good location.
