variances from a dwelling area would establish a precedence.
Donald and Norma Johnson - Table
Donald and Norma Johnson, Pelican Rapids, MN, requested a variance to subdivide a metes and bounds parcel of
less than 5 acres. The existing metes and bounds parcel is approximately 1.78 acres. The applicants would like to

Parcel B on the drawing on file with the County Auditor’s Office. Parcel A would have^approximately 32,500 square
“feet of area and approximately 215 feet of lake frontage. Parcel B would have approximately 32,500 square feet of
area and approximately 187 feet of lake frontage. The minimum size required for metes and bounds parcels within
the shofeland area is 5 acres. The minimum size required for platted lots on a recreational development lake is
40,000 square feet of area and 150 feet of lake frontage. The property is described as part of Government Lot 1,
Section 26 of Scambler Township by Tamarac Lake. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the
request. After consideration, motion was made by John Everts, seconded by Robert Schvyartz and unanimously
carried, to table the applicants’ request until the June 13th, 1996, meeting to allow the applicants an opportunity to
consider the alternative discussed with the Board at the public hearing.

John Krueger - Tabled
John Krueger, Fergus Falls, MN, requested a variance of 70’ from the required ordinary high water level setback of
100’, a variance of 65’ from the required ordinary high water level setback of 100’ and a variance of 10’ from the 30’
maximum allowable height of a dwelling for the replacement of an existing 12’ by 60’ mobile home with an
approximately 58’ by 80’ dwelling being approximately 30’ from the easterly ordinary high water level, approximately
35’ from the westerly ordinary high water level and being approximately 40’ in height and a variance of 50’ from the
required ordinary high water level setback of 100’ for the construction of a carriage house approximately 50’ from the
ordinary high water level. The property is described as Lots 9 and 10, Svendgaard’s Camp, Long Lake in Elizabeth
Township. As this was a previously tabled request the audience was not polled at this public hearing. After
consideration, motion was made by Cecil Femling, seconded by Craig Anderson to approve a 50’ variance from the
required '• rdinary high water level setback of 100’ for the construction of the applicant’s proposed dwelling. Noting
that this variance would place all structures outside of the shore impact zone. After additional consideration and
discussion, motion was made by Craig Anderson, seconded by Robert Schwartz and unanimously carried, to table
action, per the applicant’s request, until the July 11th, 1996, meeting to allow the applicant an opportunity to consider
the motion previously offered and to consider possible other alternatives.
Merlin John Koskela - Approved
Merlin John Koskela, Minnetonka, MN, requested a variance of 20’ from the required ordinary high water level
setback of 100’ for the constnjction of a 26’ by 36’ garage 80’ from the ordinary high water level. The property is
described as Lot 8, Timberlane Beach Rearrangement, Round Lake in Everts Township. As this was a previously
tabled request the audience was not polled at this public hearing. After consideration, motion was made by John
Everts, seconded by Craig Anderson and carried with Cecil Femling voting no, to approve a 10’ variance from the
required 30’ top of bluff setback for the constnjction of a 26’ by 36’ garage 20’ from the top of the bluff with the
provision that the applicant completes the necessary landscaping to cause drainage to flow away from the bluff.
Flardship being the terrain features at the rear (road side) of the applicant’s property. It was noted that the granting of
the variance would place the garage 100’ from the ordinary high water level and would allow the applicant a
reasonable use of his property.
