For grasses on steep slopes I would recommend 40 pounds of grass seed per acre, and 100 pounds of N-P-K per acre of actual plant food. Re commended grasses and legumes for both warm and cold seasons are as follows; Variety Rate Per AcreGrass or Legume 5#Birds Foot Trefoil Crown Vetch Prairie Sand Reed Switch Grass Perennial Rye Grass Sand Dropseed Creeping Red Fescue Sand Blue Stem Empire or Leo Emerald or Pennigift As is available Nebraska - 28 NK-100, NK-200, Norlea As is available Ranier, Illahu, Ruby As is available 10# 3# 4# 6# 8# 4# I realize that some of these varieties are not always available, but several varieties should be used in case one shojild fail. Mulch netting is also highly recommended if available. The best use of the 12' roll back to 10' above lake level is quite critical if there is evidence of ice erosion and bank erosion on the steep slope which is about 1:1, I have suggested a 4-5* cantalevered cement wall to protect the lake shore frontage and to reduce the slope to 3:1* This wall to be back filled with existing soil and covered with 6” of good top soil, Cvilling out wolf trees and some vmdesirable species will allow more svmlight to penetrate and result in a more vigorous grass stand. This will result in a good 3:1 slope approximately 110' from the shore line. This plan should enhance the beauty of the area, and also reduce erosion on the steep slope and the lake shore itself to a minimum. There would be no need for terraces.
