After discussion and consideration, Randall Mann made a motion, second by Paul Larson and unanimously carried, to
approve a variance of 4’ from the required drain field setback of 10’ for the placement of a detached garage 6’ from
the drain field with the following conditions: 1.) impervious surfaces cannot exceed 25% of the total lot area, 2.) the
proposed garage must be at least 10’ from the side lot lines, and 3.) the proposed garage must be at least 20’ from the
road right-of-way. The Board noted that the variance as approved does provide the applicant with a reasonable use of
his property.

Darrel Bergan - Approved as modified with conditions. (6:53 p.m.)
Darrel Bergan, Sub Lot K of Government Lot 1, Section 11 of Scambler Township by Pelican Lake,
requested a variance of 8’ from the required side lot line setback of 10’ for the placement of a 24’ by 26’
garage 2’ from the side lot line to allow for safer ingress and egress to the garage off of County Road No.
9, a variance of 4’ from the required side lot line setback of 10’ for the placement of a septic tank 6’ from
the side lot line and a variance of 8’ from the required 10’ setback for the placement of the drain field 2’
from the garage. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the variance as requested.
After discussion and consideration, Randall Mann made a motion, second by Paul Larson and unanimously
carried, to approve a variance of 4’ from the required drain field setback of 10’ for the placement of a
detached garage 6’ from the drain field with the following conditions; 1.) impervious surfaces cannot
exceed 25% of the total lot area, 2.) the proposed garage must be at least 10’ from the side lot lines, and
3.) the proposed garage must be at least 20’ from the road right-of-way. The Board noted that the variance
as approved does provide the applicant with a reasonable use of his property.
Fred Altenbernd - Approved the variance application as requested. (7:07 p.m.)
Fred Altenbernd, Lots 54 and 55 Provan Beach, Pelican Lake in Dunn Township, requested a variance of
6’ from the required ordinary high water level setback requirement of 75’ for a 16’ by 24’ addition to an
existing dwelling 69’ from the ordinary high water level. The audience was polled with no one speaking for
or against the variance as requested. After discussion and consideration, Cecil Femling made a motion,
second by Michael Conlon and unanimously carried, to approve a variance of 6’ from the required ordinary
high water level setback requirement of 75’ for a 16’ by 24’ addition to an existing dwelling 69’ from the
ordinary high water level. The addition is to the roadside of the existing dwelling away from the ordinary
high water level.
Walter E Nordholm - Denied (7:10 p.m.)
Walter E Nordholm, Et Al, Lots 16 and 17 Channel View, Otter Tail River in Otter Tail Township, requested
a variance to have Lots 16 and 17 declared separate buildable lots and a variance of 83’ from the required
ordinary high water level setback of 150’ for the location of a building area on Lot 16 67’ from the ordinary
high water level. Earl Riley, one of the property owner, appeared with Walter Nordholm to represent the
application. The audience was polled with Don Schapp speaking for the variance as requested. After
discussion and consideration, Steve Schierer made a motion, second by Cecil Femling and unanimously
carried, to deny the variance as requested as no adequate hardship unique to the property had been
shown that would allow for the separation of these two substandard contiguous lots and this denial is
consistent with past actions of the Board regarding the separation of substandard contiguous lots.
Monte and Joy Thompson - Denied the side lot line request and approve the ordinary high water
ievel request. (7:18 p.m.)
Monte and Joy Thompson, Lot 1 Block 3 Lida Shores, Lake Lida in Lida Township, requested a variance of
19’ from the required ordinary high water level setback of 75’ and a variance of 6’ from the required side lot
line setback of 10’ for the placement of a new foundation under an existing 24’ by 30’ cabin 56 or 57’ from
the ordinary high water level and 4’ from the side lot line. The audience was polled with no one speaking
for or against the variance as requested. After discussion and consideration, Paul Larson made a motion,
second by Michael Conlon and unanimously carried, to deny a variance of 6’ from the required side lot line
setback of 10’ as the applicants have adequate room to place the new foundation and structure 10’ from
the side lot line and to approve a variance of 19’ from the required ordinary high water level setback of 75’
for the placement of the foundation/structure no closer to the ordinary high water level than the existing
structure. Hardship is a substandard lot of record.
