Virgil and Eileen Schmit - Approved the variance as requested. (6:43 p.m.)
Virgil and Eileen Schmit, part of Lot 2 and all Lot 3, Sandy Haven Development, Stalker Lake in
Tordenskjold Township, requested the following; Replace existing garage with 28’ by 34’ garage being
approximately 1 ’ from road right-of-way. Required setback is 20’. Variance requested is 19’ from road
right-of-way. This variance is necessary in order to meet the required lake setback. The driving surface of
the road is way west of center of road right-of-way. The audience was polled with Vicky Thomas speaking
for the variance as requested. Letters from Douglas and Ann Etten and Loren and MaryAnn Romberg in
support of the variance as requested was read for the record. After discussion and consideration, Michael
Harris made a motion, second by Carl Zick and unanimously carried, to approve a variance of 19’ from the
required road right-of-way setback of 20’for the construction of a 28' by 34’ garage, with 8’ sidewalls and a
4/12 pitch, T from the road right-of-way. It was noted that the proposed garage will be no closer to the
road right-of-way than the existing garage and the proposed garage location is consistent with the location
of other garages in this immediate area. Hardship is the placement of the road within the road right-of-way.
Lucy Tabatt- Approved the requested variance as modified. (6:48 p.m.)
Lucy Tabatt, Lot 4 Block 2 Summer Haven Beach First Addition, Pelican Lake in Scambler Township,
requested a variance to have a substandard back lot created in 1972 declared buildable for residential
purposes. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the variance as requested. After
discussion and consideration, Steve Schierer made a motion, second by Michael Harris and unanimously
carried, to declare Lot 4 Block 2 Summer Haven Beach First Addition, a substandard back lot, buildable for
non residential/non dwelling purposes. It was noted that the variance as approved is consistent with past
actions of the Board in areas containing similar situations. It was also noted that permitting dwellings on
the substandard back lots in this immediate area could potentially create over crowding issues.
Timothy and Lori Crompton - Denied the variances as requested for the garage and approve a
modified variance for the placement of the proposed shed. (6:59
p.m.)
Timothy and Lori Crompton, Lots 11 and 12 Anderson Beach Addition and part of Government Lot 3,
Section 11 of Scambler Township by Pelican Lake, requested a variance of 25’ from the required ordinary
high water level setback of 75’ for the placement of a storage shed 50’ from the ordinary high water level
and a variance of 25’ from the required ordinary high water level setback of 75’ and a variance of 1T from
the required road right-of-way setback of 20’ for the placement of a garage 50’ from the ordinary high water
level and 9’ from the road right-of-way. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the
variance as requested. After discussion and consideration, Michael Harris made a motion, second by Carl
Zick and unanimously carried, to deny the variances as requested for the proposed garage and to approve
the placement of the proposed 8’ by 12’ storage shed in the best location on the applicants’ property as
determined by the Land and Resource Department. The 8’ by 12’ storage shed is a reasonable request for
this particular property.
Paul J. and Mary L. Friederichs - Approved the variance as requested. (7:13 p.m.)
Paul J. and Mary L. Friederichs, part of Government Lot 9, Section 1 of Sverdrup Township by East Lost
Lake, requested a variance of 24’ from the required ordinary high water level setback of 100’ for the
placement of a 12’ by 20’ structure (storage shed) approximately 76’ from the ordinary high water level.
The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the variance as requested. After discussion
and consideration, Steve Schierer made a motion, second by Paul Larson and unanimously carried, to
approve, based on the applicants voluntary statement that a storage shed and trailer (north of existing
dwelling) would be removed and a fish house (west of existing dwelling) would be placed in a more
complying location, a variance of 24’ from the required ordinary high water level setback of 100’ for the
placement of a 12’ by 20’ structure (storage shed) approximately 76’ from the ordinary high water level.
