After discussion and consideration, Steve Schierer made a motion, seconded by Paul Larson and unanimously
carried, to declare Lot 1 Block 1, Squires Second Addition, a substandard back lot, buildable for residential
development. The Board noted that the variance as approved is consistent with past Board of Adjustment actions.

Sunset Bay Resort - Approved as requested. (7:30 p.m.)
Sunset Bay Resort, part of Government Lot 7, Section 28 of Hobart Township by Long Lake, requested a
variance to remodel cabin number 5. Remodeling is to include improving and or repairing the foundation.
Make the existing 8' by 12’ porch and 8’ by 8' portion of the concrete paver patio into cabin. This
remodeling will turn a one bedroom cabin with two beds into a two-bedroom cabin with two beds. Cabin is
currently 19’ from lake. Requesting a variance of 81’ from the required ordinary high water level setback of
100’. Randall Mann, Chair, polled the audience with no one speaking for or against the variance as
requested. After discussion and consideration, Paul Larson made a motion, seconded by Cecil Femling
and carried with Randall Mann voting no, to approve a variance of 19’ from the required ordinary high water
level setback of 100’ for modifications to Cabin No. 5 as described in the applicant’s Application for
Variance dated August 4, 2004. The proposed modifications will be 19’ from the ordinary high water level.
The Board noted that the proposed modifications are maintenance to an established structure.
John Wright and Ann Schmidt - Approved as requested with a condition. (7:35 p.m.)
John Wright and Ann Schmidt, Lot 16 Silver View Park, Silver Lake in Everts Township, requested a
variance of 67’ from the required ordinary high water level setback of 100’ and a variance of 17’ from the
required shore impact zone setback of 50' for the placement of a new structure 33’ from the ordinary high
water level. Randall Mann, Chair, polled the audience with Paul Nelson speaking for the variance as
requested. After discussion and consideration, Michael Conlon made a motion, seconded by Randall
Mann and unanimously carried, to approve a variance of 67’ from the required ordinary high water level
setback of 100’ and a variance of 17’ from the required shore impact zone setback of 50’ for the placement
of a new structure 33’ from the ordinary high water level with the condition that before a permit can be
issued for the proposed development the existing shed must be removed. The Board noted that the
variance as approved does not grant directly or indirectly any variances for the placement of a septic
system.

Burl A and Donna J Rummens, Lot 1 Block 1, Squires Second Addition, Rush Lake in Rush Lake
Township, requested a variance to have a substandard back lot declared buildable for residential use.
Randall Mann, Chair, polled the audience with no one speaking for or against the variance as requested.
After discussion and consideration, Steve Schierer made a motion, seconded by Paul Larson and
unanimously carried, to declare Lot 1 Block 1, Squires Second Addition, a substandard back lot, buildable
for residential development. The Board noted that the variance as approved is consistent with past Board
of Adjustment actions.
Wallace and Betty Diekman - Approved the use of a building line. (7:43 p.m.)
Wallace and Betty Diekman, Lot 9 Block 1, Engstrom Beach, West McDonald Lake in Edna Township,
requested a variance of 13’ from the required road right-of-way setback of 20’ and a variance of 49’ from
the required ordinary high water level setback of 100’ for the placement of a 20’ by 36’ dwelling with an
attached 16’ by 26’ garage 7’ from the road right-of-way and 5T from the ordinary high water level. Also,
requesting a variance to place a septic system in the road right-of-way. Patrick Kenney, Attorney appeared
with the applicants at the public hearing. Letters from the following in support of the variance as requested
were read for the record: Edna Township Board of Supervisors, Patrick B Kenney, Attorney, Kyle and
Charlotte Anderson, Larry and Kathy Morris, Myron and Lois Hovden, Joy and David Hillrud, Chris Balch,
Sheldon Ellig, Henry and Brenda Knoll, Dulcie Slotten, Dean and Nancy Slotten, Robert and Debra White,
Sheila Carnery, Geraldine and Robert Schoener, Dave and Gloria Neiber, Keith and Lynne Brokke, and
Dale and Jeanne Janssen. Randall Mann, Chair, polled the audience with Larry Morris and Myron Hovden
speaking in support of the variance as requested.
