Edward James and Yvonne Eileen Schlichting - Approved
Edward James and Yvonne Eileen Schlichting, Anoka, MN, requested a variance of 25' from the required
ordinary high water level setback of 75' for the construction of a 30’ by 24’ addition to an existing 32’ by
24’ dwelling 50’ from the ordinary high water level. The applicants are also proposing the construction of
a 24’ by 30’ garage which will be located approximately 75’ from the ordinary high water level, 75’ from
the access road and 10’ from the side lot line. The applicants have noted that after the proposed
additions approximately 10.5% of their total lot area will be covered by buildings. The property is
described as part of Government Lot 2, Section 33 of Lida Township by South Lida Lake. The audience
was polled with Oscar Haarstad speaking to the request. After consideration, motion was made by Cecil
Femling, seconded by Robert Schwartz and unanimously carried, to approve a variance of 25’ from the
required ordinary high water level setback of 75’ for the construction of a 32’ by 24’ addition to an
existing 30’ by 24’ dwelling 50’ from the ordinary high water level. It was noted that the addition will be
no closer to the ordinary high water level than the existing structure. It was noted that a proposed 24’ by
30’ garage will be placed in a location that meets the setback requirements of the ordinance.
Leo and Sharon Axdahl - Approved
Leo and Sharon Axdahl, Battle Lake, MN, requested a variance to purchase a substandard lot from Ray
and Elaine Chase. Ray and Elaine Chase own Lots 1 through 5 of Oxcart Trail. Lot 1 has approximately
38,800 square feet of area. The minimum size requirement for a platted lot on a urban and tributary
river is 40,000 square feet of area and 100’ of water frontage/lot width. The property is described as Lot
1, Oxcart Trail, on an unnamed river in Otter Tail Township. The audience was polled with no one
speaking for or against the request. A letter from Irvin and Lovelle Klinger opposing the variance request
was read for the record. After consideration, motion was made by Craig Anderson, seconded by John
Everts and unanimously carried, to approve the variance as requested with the condition that Lots 2 and
3, Oxcart Trail, (back lots) must be combined into one lot for purposes of future conveyance.
Mary Armstrong - Approved
Mary Armstrong, Et Al, Wadena, MN, requested a variance to subdivide Lot 5 of Gloria’s Oak Manor
Beach, except the West 10’ and the East 10’ thereof, so as to allow the conveyance of the West 15’ of
the East 25’ of Lot 5, Gloria’s Oak Manor Beach to Bruce M. and Cindy I. Hudalla. The Hudallas
presently own the east 10’ of Lot 5 and all of Lot 4, Gloria’s Oak Manor Beach. The property is described
as Lot 5, except the West 10’ and the East 10’, Gloria’s Oak Manor Beach, Rush Lake in Rush Lake
Township. Cindy Hudalla represented the applicants at the hearing. The audience was polled with no
one speaking for or against the request. After consideration, motion was made by Cecil Femling,
seconded by Craig Anderson and unanimously carried, to approve the variance as requested. It was
noted that the granting of the variance will be an improvement to Lot 4 \Arithout adversely affecting Lot 5.
