After discussion, motion was made by Craig Anderson to grant variance no closer to lake than a line proceeding from the enclosed portion of buildings on either side of property.The motion was seconded by John Everts and carried. Daryl Adair, Moorhead, MN, requested permission to add a screened porch to lakeside- of cabin on Lot 5, on Outlet B of Lida Shores, Lida Township, motion was made by Tom Stringer, seconded by John Everts and carried, to den^ appro­ val because of failure to show hardship. AFter discussion. John Sommerville, Ottertail, MN, requested permission to split Lot 6, Klinger's Add'n, Rush Lake Township, by metes and bounds description with a 70' wide by 198' deep lot. After discussion, motion was made by David Trites, seconded by Tom Stringer and carried, to deny approval, no valid hardship established. Hardship stated is not a valid hardshipnot one that makes strict adherence to ordinance not feasible. «Donald J. Both inidviduals are requesting permission for substandard lots. Even though an individual may have an "odd size" piece of property, i.e. something more in dimensions then required by the ordinance, that is no justification to create substandard lots. Such lots that exceed the minimum standards but are not large enough to create two lots or more of standard dimensions, should not be subdivided to create substandard lots. This practice would not be fair to other riparian owners who are required to meet ordinance require­ ments, Neither application specifies any hardship and it is diff­ icult to imagine any hardship unique to the property that would justify approval to create any substandard lot.
