James L. Ensrude - Approved
The statement was made by Mr. Ensrude that a previous variance to subdivide a parcel less than 5 acres was granted
in August 1998 and he is going through the same channels per Wayne Stein’s request. The reason for requesting
the variance is that Mr. Ensrude has the intent to sell the property. The audience was polled with no one speaking for
or against the request. After consideration, motion was made by John Everts,seconded by Cecil Femling. All votes
were unanimously carried.

James L. Ensrude, St. Paul, MN, requested a variance to subdivide a parcel of less than 5 acres (approximately
52,392 square feet) from an existing 2.5 acre parcel for attachment to the neighbor’s parcel, which was approved
by the Board of Adjustment on August 6, 1998. The property is described as part of Government Lot 1, Section 7
of Rush Lake Township by Marion Lake. The statement was made by Mr .Ensrude that a previous variance to
subdivide a parcel less than 5 acres was granted in August 1998 and he is going.through the same channels per
Wayne Stein’s request. The reason for requesting the variance is that Mr. Ensrude has the intent to sell the
property. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the request. After consideration, motion
was made by John Everts,seconded by Cecil Femling. All votes were unanimously carried.
Sunset Bay Resort - Approved - Denied
• /Kevin J and June M. Kovar, Frazee, MN, request the following;
Structure 3- Remove existing 8’by 24’porch and rebuild new one.
Structure 4 - Add on 6’ by 8’ to square off cabin to include a shower.
Structure 6 - Add on 6’ by 8’ to square off cabin to include a shower.
Structure 5 - Add on 5’ by 7’ to square off cabin to. include a shower.
Structure 7 - Add on an 8’ by 10’ screened porch.
Structure 1 - Add fill around cabin 10’to fill low spots.
The following year lift (structure 1) cabin, fix foundation, remove existing screened porch and rebuild porch to
include shower. Remove shop and sauna, rebuild 32’ by 42’ building to include garage, shop, sauna, hot tub,
exercise room and resort storage. If fixing structure 1 proves to be costly, we would like to remove structure 8 and
build two new cabins in that area. (Structure 1 being 15’ from the water is the closest cabin.) This project will take
approximately five years to complete.
The property is described as part of Government Lot 7, Section 28 of Hobart Township by Long Lake.
The board members after some discussion decided to^take.each request separately starting with structure #3
which was approved immediately with the first motion made by Cecil Femling and second motion by David
Holmgren. Structures #4, #6 and #7 were approved with no conditions except to remove structure #1 first. This
approval was first motioned by Randall Mann and second motion by Richard Sha. Structure #5 was approved
with a condition that Kovar’s have a 3 year limit to improve the structure because of the water level, Randall
Mann made the first motion and Richard Sha made the second motion. Structure #1 was denied because it is
surrounded by water and it was discussed that DNR would have to be involved in order to backfill. Randall
Mann made the stipulation that the structure was to be removed by September 1,1999. His motion was
seconded by Mark Steuart Structure #8 was approved as Structure #1 was denied so Sunset Bay Resort would
like to remove the mobile home and build 2 new cabins when feasible. There would be no variance needed for
the new structures. The only excavation done will be ground level except for footings. The audience was polled
with no one speaking for or against the request. All request s were unanimously carried.
