Motion was made by John Evertsf seconded by Craig Anderson and unanimously carried, to approve a variance of
approxiniately 6” and a variance of approximately 2’ 8” fronri thejequired_'side lot line setback of 10’ for the^addition of
a second story and for a'crawl space to an existing structure being 9’6” from the side lot line at one point and being 7’
4” from the side lot line at another point and,a:;variance td exceed the existing string line by .3’ 11 ^ It.should be noted
that the proposed addition will be no closer to the ordinary high watefJevel than the existing structure. It was noted
that the extreme angte .of the, side Idt.lines to the lake necessities the need for the side lot line variances.; It was also
noted that the proposed addition will not obstruct the view of the neighbor’s to the east and that considerable effort
and planning has been'done by the applicant on the de^eloprnent of his property. Hardship is a substandard. lot;Of
record.

Variance Board Members
My wife and I are planning to add on to our lake cabin and move there year around. Since the
original cabin was built there have been several changes that have caused us to require a variance in
order to complete an addition. Our neighbor to the east formerly had a small cabin that sat right
down by the water. Our cabin was built well behind a string line between our two adjacent
neighbors. The cabin on the east was moved off the property and a home was built. This put our
current cabin in front of a normal string line test and also makes any addition difficult. The
neighbor to the east then put his septic system between our houses which causes setback problems
if we try to expand to the east. Our own septic and a lot line that runs at angles to the lake make
expansion to the north difficult. We have been working with builders to try to modify our plans as
much as possible to stay 20 feet or more from all septic systems. We have accomplished that but
have not found a reasonable alternative to a variance on the east lot line (due to the angle of the lot
line to the lake) and a variance on the string test (due to the existing structure already being slightly
forward).
I am hopeful that we can reach some kind of compromise that would allow us to make a livable
home under the restrictions that apply. I would invite you to come look at the site or call me with
any questions you might have.
