The undersigned have been informed that a proposal is being developed for use of the property described on Exhibit A attached here to as a public or private campground and that as a part of such develop ment plan, access would be afforded to Long Lake over and across the property described on Exhibit B attached hereto. The undersigned strongly urge the Planning Commission and the Town Board of Elizabeth Township to immediately take all necessary legal steps to prohibit the use of the property described on Exhibit A attached hereto as a public or private campground and to further prohibit the use of the property described in Exhibit B attached hereto as an access point (to Long Lake for any such campground. The undersigned further strongly urge the Planning Commission and the Town Board of Elizabeth Township to immediately take all necessary legal steps to prohibit any use of land within the Township for public or private campground purposes for the following reasons: ^uch land use will decrease property values in the entireA. Township to the detriment of all taxpayers in the Township even though there might be initially.some small increase in the assessed value of the actual campground site. The Improvements to tlie campground site v;ill in no wayB. be substantial so as to offset the decrease in value which will occur to other property within the Township. Such land use will increase the demand for necessaryC. services to the site, such as, roads and' police protection and super vision so that it would operate to the ultimate detriment of all tax payers of the Township by reason of increasing real estate taxes to pay for such services. Such highly dense land use is- inconsistent to the previouslyD. established land uses within the Township and tends to dramatically change the nature and character of all present land uses. Such land use would be damaging from an ecological stand-E. point by virtue of creating substantial problems as to disposal of waste.!■ trash and debris as well as creating-problems with respect to Long Lake, especialLy at the access point described in Exhibit B.This access point is a natural spawning area and would have to be substantially regraded and filled and a beach created which would damage the natural ecology•' I !-f of the area to the detriment of all residents and property owners in the To\raship. The creation of a campground will bring into the TownshipF. many transients who would have no long range interest in the Township whatsoever and the only logical consequence will be one of creating sub stantial visual and actual pollution as well as noise pollution, all to the extreme detriment of the present residents and property owners within )-2-4 ' L •I •> 'v.. Elizabeth Township. The concentration of people at a public or rivate camp-G. ground site and on Long Lake will be damaging ecologically to the Lake 4because of the logical consequence of actual visual and noise pollution. In addition, such damage might also occur during winter months through snowmobile promotions. It is understood that more people will ultimately beH. residents or property owners of Elizabeth Township as the population expands and people have increased mobility, but the objective of local government ought to be to direct this development in an orderly, less dense manner, striving to achieve development of a different character with residents and property owners who will have a long range interest in Such a policy will best serve both the present and futurethe community. residents and property owners in Elizabeth Township as well as the ecology. -3- EXHIBIT "A" The W 1/2 of the NE 1/4 of Section 12, Township 134 N.
