We want to add an addition to our home to enclose the well pump, and add a water heater, furnace, washer & dryer. The existing structure is small and there is no room for these mechanical appliances. Our existing water heater needs to be replaced and we currently do not have a furnace, washer or dryer. Our home is located 2' from the neighboring North property line. We would like to add the addition to the existing structure as shown on the attached drawing for several reasons: The roof style of our home is hip set and does not lend itself to tying in an addition in any area except this side. On this side of the home there is a gable that we could tie into. There are no windows on this end of the home. We can also enclose our well pump on this end. We would be extending the existing North side of our home for the addition and would not extend further into the setback tha||the existing structure. I UNDERSTAND THAT I HAVE APPLIED FOR A VARIANCE FROM THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE SHORELAND MANAGEMENT ORDINANCE/SUBDIVISION CONTROLS ORDINANCE OF OTTER TAIL COUNTY. I ALSO UNDERSTAND THAT OTHER PERMITS MAY BE REQUIRED, IT IS MY RESPONSIBILITY TO CONTACT LAND & RESOURCE MANAGEMENT REGARDING THIS MATTER. Motion Mike and Cindy Karlen - Approved the variance as modified. (8:08 p.m.) After consideration and discussion, Michael Conlon made a motion, seconded by Paul Larson to approve a variance of 8.5’ from the required side lot line setback of 10’ for an addition to an existing dwelling 1.5’ from the side lot line. The motion failed with Cecil Femling, Randall Mann and Steve Schierer voting no. Those voting in favor of this motion noted that that the proposed addition would be no closer to the side lot line than the existing structure. After additional discussion and consideration, Randall Mann made a motion, seconded by Steve Schierer and unanimously carried, to approve a variance of 5’ from the required side lot line setback of 10’ for the placement of an 1T by 14’ addition 5’ from the side lot line.
