Motion
Mike and Cindy Karlen - Approved the variance application as requested. (6:40 p.m.)
After discussion and consideration, Thomas Lee made a motion, second by Paul Larson and unanimously carried, to approve a
variance of 8.5’ from the required side lot line setback of 10’ for the proposed development as stated in the variance application
dated April 14, 2014 and as depicted on the drawing submitted with the application. The variance as approved applies only to the
existing 22’ by 30’ existing dwelling. The hardship/practical difficulty is the existing flat roof which requires maintenance. It was
noted that the proposed maintenance will be a good improvement to the neighborhood and the proposed development is
consistent with other development (neighbor to the north) within the immediate area.

Raymond P. Baumler Et Al - Approved the variance application as requested with a condition. (6:32 p.m.)
Raymond P. Baumler Et Al, Lots 84 and 85 Nedberg Nye Survey Lots of Government Lots 1, 2 and 3, Section 1 of
Edna Township by Dead Lake requested a variance of 55’ from the required ordinary high water level setback of 75’
for the placement of an attached 12’ by 20’ deck 20’ from the ordinary high water level. Jeff Hanna represented the
applicant at the public hearing. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the variance as
requested. After discussion and consideration. Ward Uggerud made a motion second by Michael Harris and
unanimously carried, to approve a variance of 55’ from the required ordinary high water level setback of 75’ for the
placement of an attached 12' by 20’ deck 20’ from the ordinary high water level as depicted on the drawing dated April
15, 2014 with the condition that steps coming down off the proposed deck can be no closer to the ordinary high water
level than either the existing dwelling or the proposed 12’ by 20’ deck addition. The hardship/practical difficulty is a
grossly substandard lot.
Mike and Cindy Karlen - Approved the variance application as requested. (6:40 p.m.)
Mike and Cindy Karlen, Lot 2 (including land between lot and lake/road) Pine Beach Sub Lot C, Big Pine Lake in Pine
Lake Township requested the following: 1.) Put new roof over existing roof since old roof is flat, 2.) No change in size
of structure, 3.) Raise height 2 feet - requesting a 8.5’ variance from required side lot line setback of 10’. Existing
dwelling is 1.5’ from side lot line. Mike Karlen attended the public hearing. The audience was polled with no one
speaking for or against the variance as requested. After discussion and consideration, Thomas Lee made a motion,
second by Paul Larson and unanimously carried, to approve a variance of 8.5’ from the required side lot line setback
of 10’ for the proposed development as stated in the variance application dated April 14, 2014 and as depicted on the
drawing submitted with the application. The variance as approved applies only to the existing 22’ by 30’ existing
dwelling. The hardship/practical difficulty is the existing flat roof which requires maintenance. It was noted that the
proposed maintenance will be a good improvement to the neighborhood and the proposed development is consistent.
with other development (neighbor to the north) within the immediate area.
Betty Pederson Et Al — Approved the variance as requested for the deck and denied the variance as requested for the garage. (6:45 p.m.)
Betty Pederson ET AL, part of Government Lot 2, Section 1 of Clitherall Township by West Battle Lake, requested the
following: We would like a 12’ deck on lakeside. We are 68’ from ordinary high water level, but have lost 20’+ of land
because of high water levels. Also would like to have a 28’ wide garage, but drain field for septic system only allows
for 25’ wide. Requesting a variance to replace existing 10’ deck with the new 12’ wide deck to be 66’ from ordinary
high water level. Also, request a variance to be 7’ from drain field with new proposed garage. Chris Pederson and
Sam Bellig, Contractor appeared with the applicant. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the
variance as requested. After discussion and consideration, Paul Larson made a motion, second by Thomas Lee and
unanimously carried to approve a variance of 9' from the required ordinary high water level setback of 75’ for the
replacement of a 10’ wide deck with 12’ wide deck 66’ from the ordinary high water level as depicted on the drawing
submitted with the variance application and to deny the variance from the drain field as requested for the proposed
garage as no adequate hardship/practical difficulty had been shown that would allow for the granting of requested
variance for the proposed garage and other alternatives are available that would provide the applicants with a ^
reasonable use of their property. ( J
