Motion
Mike and Diane Marquardt - Approved the variance application as requested. (8:31 p.m.)
After discussion and consideration, Robert Schwartz made a motion, seconded by Michael Harris and carried with Steve Schierer
voting no, to approve the variance as stated in the application dated July 15, 2013 and as depicted on the drawing submitted with
the variance application dated June 15, 2013. The parcel is very large (approximately 9 acres); however, the unique shape of the
property makes it very difficult to meet all of the setback requirements. The variance application as approved will provide the
applicants with a reasonable use of their property. It should also be noted that the variance as approved does not directly or
indirectly grant any other variance for the proposed development.

Jerome Reinan - Approved the variance application as requested with a condition. (8:22 p.m.)
Jerome Reinan, part of Lot 11 Maplehurst, Lake Lida in Lida Township, requested the following: current garage is 5’
from lot line. Requesting a 5’ variance. Need to repair/replace current roof due to extreme snow load and broken roof
supports. Need to replace bond beams. Currently the Imperious is approximately 37%. Proposing no change in
impervious. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the variance as requested. After discussion
and consideration, Michael Harris made a motion, second by Thomas Lee and unanimously carried, to approve the
roof repair/replacement project with the condition that the repaired/replaced roof cannot be more than 4' higher than
the existing roof. The Land and Resource Department will measure the height of the existing structure prior to the
start of the proposed project. The proposed project will not obstruct the view from the adjacent properties. The
proposed development will change the pitch of the existing roof. A neighbor had presented one of the board
members with a survey that indicates that the existing structure is 2.55’ from the lot line instead of the 5' as stated in
the application.
Mike and Diane Marquardt - Approved the variance application as requested. (8:31 p.m.)
Mike and Diane Marquardt, part of Government Lot 4, Section 22 of Eastern Township by Mary Lake, requested the
following: A) We request the right to place a WOAS (Boathouse) 20’ from water's edge. (Meets setback
requirements, variance not required.) B) We request the right to park a camper 100’ from water’s edge on all sides.
One single family dwelling (RV). C) Purchased land under assumption of being a campsite. Land was
misrepresented in advertisement. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the variance as
requested. After discussion and consideration, Robert Schwartz made a motion, seconded by Michael Harris and
carried with Steve Schierer voting no, to approve the variance as stated in the application dated July 15, 2013 and as
depicted on the drawing submitted with the variance application dated June 15, 2013. The parcel is very large
(approximately 9 acres); however, the unique shape of the property makes it very difficult to meet all of the setback
requirements. The variance application as approved will provide the applicants with a reasonable use of their
property. It should also be noted that the variance as approved does not directly or indirectly grant any other variance
for the proposed development.
James Hudson and Sheila Jeske - Approved the variance application as requested. (8:42 p.m.)
James Hudson and Sheila Jeske, Lot 49 Timberlane Hills, Round Lake in Everts Township, requested the following:
This lot was approved on September 26, 1974 for residential use by Otter Tail County. In 1992 and through no fault
of ours, the law changed increasing the square footage and lot width requirements for a non-riparian lot. We are
requesting a variance so we may use the property for residential use again. Mike and Wanda Schonhardt, potential
buyers, represented the applicants. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the variance as
requested. After discussion and consideration, Michael Harris made a motion, second by Ward Uggerud and
unanimously carried, to declare Lot 49 Timberlane Hills as a buildable lot for residential use. The variance as
approved does not directly or indirectly grant any other variance for future development.
Jay and Ann Christenson - Approved the variance application as modified. (8:47 p.m.)
Jay and Ann Christenson, Lots 9 through 19 Block 3 Midway Park, Otter Tail Lake in Otter Tail Township, requested
the following: Replace mulch with either concrete or pavers between strips of current driveway and increase sides on
corner by 2’ on both sides before apron. Current design is not safe or useful in current state. Requirement 25%.
Proposed 27.29%. July 11, 2013 Meeting - The audience was polled with Morris Lanning and Paul Michaelson
speaking for the granting of the variance as requested. A letter from John and Jane Ellingson requesting that the
variance not be granted was read for the record. After significant consideration and discussion, Michael Harris made
a motion, second by Ward Uggerud and carried with Thomas Lee voting no, to table, with the applicant’s (Jay) verbal
permission this public hearing until the August 2013 meeting of the Board of Adjustment for a determination of the
total eligible lot area, for a verification by Anderson Land Surveying regarding how they determined the square
footage listed on the survey and for a determination of the total square footage of existing impervious surfaces.
