This letter is in response to the variance request by Rodney Flaten pertaining to the
property described as Lot 6 Block 1 Chuck's North Shore View 2nd.
We own the property adjacent to the property above and have discussed this matter
with Mr. Flaten. We have no objection to their construction plans, anticipate that
their home will be an attractive addition to the neighborhood, and look forward to
having the Flatens as neighbors.

RE: Rodney Flaten’s Property on Star Lake
Lot 6 Block 1 Chuck’s North Shore View 2nd
Dear Mr. Stein and the Otter Tail County Board of Adjustment;
My name is Shirley Karen Dunham-Meissbach. I own my home at the above
address which is next to the property on Star Lake which was recently purchased
by the Flatens and on which parcel of property they wish to build a new home. I
recently received your notice that Mr. Flaten has made application for a variance
regarding the building of this dewelling.
I will not be able to attend the meeting on May H*, but I wanted to address the
variance. I understand that Mr. Flaten is asking that he be allowed to build their
home with the front of their home in a straight line extending from the front of my
home to the front of Norm and Lisa Sabye’s home. (When I say “front”, I
consider the front of my home to be the side near the lake.) I feel that it just
would not look at all aesthetically pleasing if this was not the way it was done. I
would oppose it being built anywhere else. My neighbor to my west is in a straight
line with my house and the neighbor to the east of Sabye’s is in a straight line with
the front of their house and I would hope that the Flaten’s house would be in this
same straight line
I would kindly ask that you allow the Flatens to build their home in a straight line
even with the front of my house and that of my surrounding neighbors. I would
approve such a variance which would allow this to happen.
Sincerely,
Shirley Karen Dunham-Meissbach
