Joan Darco and David Schwab, Lots 9 and 10 Cousin’s Beach, Big McDonald Lake in Dora Township, requested the
following: We would like the Board of Adjustment to consider that the Lots 9 and 10 be separated and to have each
lot be considered buildable for residential purposes. On Tuesday, September 21, 2010 Dave Schwab submitted an
email indicating that they were withdrawing their variance application.
Bruce and Beth Hammell - Variance application approved as modified. (7:40 p.m.)
Bruce and Beth Hammell, Lot 15 Liberty Beach, Pelican Lake in Dunn Township, requested the following; Replace an
existing cabin with a new structure 4’ into an old platted road right-of-way. We proposed to use the building line for
the replacement structure. This old platted road was never built and in 1923 County Road 20 was built where it is
today. The old road is currently in the process of being vacated. John Gunkelman, Contractor represented the
applicants at the hearing. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the variance as requested.
After consideration and discussion, Steve Schierer made a motion, second by Paul Larson and unanimously carried,
to approve the placement of the proposed development 0’ from the road right-of-way and 75' from the ordinary high
water level.
Thomas and Virginia Aldrich - Variance application approved as modified with a condition. (7:48 p.m.)
Thomas and Virginia Aldrich, Lot 10 Sandy Shores Development, Otter Tail Lake in Everts Township, requested the
following: The purpose of this request is to allow the sale of all of Lot 10 Shady Shores Development except the
westerly 170’ to the owner of the adjoining parcel. Douglas and Mary Geeslin (Lot 11). I agree to attach the 17,000
square feet of Lot 10 that I am retaining to the parcel that I own across Clearmont Road (Parcel No. 25-000-99-0329-
000 south Lot 4). I request that the portion of Lot 10 that I am retaining be classified as buiidable for non-residential
purposes. Douglas Geeslin represented the applicants at the hearing. The audience was polled with no one speaking
for or against the variance as requested. After consideration and discussion, Paul Larson made a motion, second by
Michael Harris and unanimously carried, to approve the variance application as described in the variance application
dated September 15, 2010 and as depicted in the drawing submitted with the application with the condition that the
area within the back lots cannot be used when calculating impervious surface coverage for front lot development.
Gregory I. and Julie K. St. Aubin - Variance appiication approved as modified with a condition. (7:55 p.m.)
Gregory I. and Julie K. St. Aubin, part of Government Lot 5, Section 26 of Otter Tail Township by Pickeral Lake,
requested the following: 1) a variance of 15' from the required ordinary high water level setback of 200' for the
location of a 24' by 32’ storage building 185’ from the ordinary high water level, 2.) a variance of 90’ from the required
ordinary high water level setback of 200’ for the addition of a porch to an existing dwelling located 110’ from the
ordinary high water level, and 3.) a variance of 90’ from the required ordinary high water level setback of 200’ for the
placement of a camper 110’ from the ordinary high water level. The camper would be onsite during the house
remodeling project. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the variance as requested. An email
from Dennis and Eileen Dirlam in support of the variance for the storage building and in opposition to the other
variances as requested was read for the record. After consideration and discussion, Steve Schierer made a motion,
second by Thomas Lee and unanimously carried, to approve a variance of 15' from the required ordinary high water
level setback of 200’ for the location of a 24’ by 32' storage building 185’ from the ordinary high water level, to
approve a variance of 90' from the required ordinary high water level setback of 200' for the addition of a porch to an
existing dwelling located 110’ from the ordinary high water level and to approve the placement of a camper at least
100' from the ordinary high water level for a period of time not to exceed 3 years from the date the first site permit is
issued for any of the proposed development with the condition that before any permits for the proposed development
can be issued the three structures noted on the applicants’ drawing for removal must be removed. Hardship/practical
difficulty is the terrain of the applicants’ property.

Dear Joan Darco:
Our Office has been informed that your check in the amount of $400.00, for the payment of your
Variance Application, received by Land & Resource on September 16, 2010 had been returned,
and marked “Stop Payment”. This check is now uncollectible.
In regards to the Fees collected by this Office, the County Board of Commissioners determined
that “All Fees Are Non-Refundable”. In order to make applicant’s aware, this statement is
included on the Land & Resource Management Fee Schedule - Effective April 1, 2010 (copy
enclosed).
In order to prevent the County from taking further action, please resubmit this $400.00 Variance
Application fee, and the $30.00 Handling Charge required by the County Treasurer’s Office, by
October 18, 2010.
When you submit the payment, please reference: Variance Application Fee for Tax Parcel
Numbers 16-000-99-0594-000 and 16-000-99-0595-000.

WE are opposed to this variance to split this lot up we have a property right behind this lot and
they are planning to pull in a trailer and rent this property out. We also own a property just down the
beach, and we are concerned about how much more traffic on the lake and on our back property this
would create.
