Thursday, November 12, 2015
The Otter Tail County Board of Adjustment met Thursday, November 12, 2015, with the following persons
in attendance;

Called to Order - Steve Schierer, Chair called the meeting of the Board of Adjustment to order at 6:30 p.m.
Minutes Approved - The Board of Adjustment approved the minutes of the September 10, 2015 meeting as mailed.
The Board of Adjustment considered the following applications for variance:
Susan Metzger - Variance application approved as requested. (6:32 p.m.)
Susan Metzger, part of Lot 22 Roinez Beach and part of Government Lot 1, Section 27 of Amor Township
by Otter Tail Lake, requested the following: We are asking for a varianee being 38’ from the ordinary high
water level to allow us to construct an upper level on our home. The construction would be behind the
string line of the homes on either side of us, but only 38’ from the ordinary high water. Requesting a 37’
variance, required setback is 75'. Bill Metzger and Rick Bladow, Contractor appeared with the applicant.
The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the variance as requested. After consideration
and discussion. Ward Uggerud made a motion, second by Paul Larson and unanimously carried, to approve
a variance of 37’ from the required ordinary high water level setback of 75’ for the placement of the
proposed development as described in the variance application and as depicted on the drawing submitted
with the variance application 38’ from the ordinary high water level. The proposed development utilizes the
same general footprint as the existing development and is behind the existing building line. The proposed
development does not obstruct the view from the adjacent properties and does not increase the amount of
impervious surface coverage. The variance as approved does not directly or indirectly grant any other
variances for the proposed development.

obstruct the view from the adjacent properties. The variance as approved does not directly or indirectly
grant any other variances for the proposed development. Hardship/practical difficulty is a substandard lot of
record.

Just a note of support for the Hoiberg variance application. Stacy and Amy are my neighbors on the side yard
property line in question. My wife and I have appreciated the tremendous improvements to their
property. Everything from the structure to shoreline has been changed for the better. The 2 feet in question are
a non-issue to our family. The Hoiberg family are some of the best neighbors we've had the pleasure to live
next to and we wish no hardship towards them relating to their variance application. This note was unsolicited
by the Hoibergs.
