If at all possible, I would appreciate this request be
placed on the March 3, 1994 hearing agenda. I plan to
attend the hearing but must drive 800 plus miles. I would
appreciate confirmation on the March hearing date. Unfortunately
I can not make a February 1994 hearing date because of
other committments.

Variance Requested Is:
Construct a 14ft. extension to the existing deck which
is part of the main entrance to the home. The proposed
deck extension side nearest the lake will be approximately
80ft. back from the shore line and well back of any string
line from adjacent existing residences. I am assuming
approval or a permit is not required for the mechanical
chair lift since personnel from Land & Resource Management
made inspection of our property on 7-7-1992 where we had
at one time considered installing the unit. We were advised
that no permit was necessary providing the clearing path
was only wide enough to handle the 3ft. wide chair lift
and no excavating was required. The new location for the
chair unit basically complies with the directions and instructions
given us on 7-7-1992.
The reason for extending the deck is to provide sufficient
deck space and direct entrance and exit from the home and
from the motorized chair lift to be installed that will
provide accessibility from the top of bluff to the shoreline
below. There are a total of 61 stair risers from top to
bottom of bluff which represents a height to traverse of
approximately 35ft. The location of the chair lift adjacent
to the proposed deck extension will not destroy any of the
natural terrain other than the removal of one basswood limb
(about 9 inches in diameter) which is part of a clump.
The present location of the existing wood stairs to and
from the lake bottom and the location of the home precludes
any other practical location for the chair lift with direct
access to and from the home,
crosses an existing rock walkway to the basement entrance
and Bunk House so the deck extension is necessary to provide
access stairs to this rock walkway.
In addition the chair lift
We find it more
difficult each year to make the trips up and down the stairs.
In addition this past year I have and continue to be under
Doctors care for a spur in my left foot which makes it more
difficult to go up and down the existing stairs.
My wife and I are both 68 years of age.
The construction will be done in a very professional manner
to not destroy or create any problem to the bluff environment.
We have tried to do our best to preserve the bluff setting
in all prior work done on this property. Our past construction
of homes and stairs will attest to that objective. Thus
we request your approval to proceed with this work in accordance
with the attached drawings starting May 1994 so the chair lift
can be installed by June 1, 1994.
