This will be achieved by construction of an open drainage ditch with rock sediment traps and control structure. On 10-2-09 the Minnesota DNR conducted a Waters Field Survey and determined the following elevations (see also attached Report). The proposed ditch will encompass an area approximately 770 feet long by 33 feet wide by 4 feet deep. One control / sediment trap and two sediment trap structures will be constructed at the north end (down stream side) of the ditch to limit the siltation and washing of sediment into the MN DNR property as requested by Don Schultz, Area Wildlife Supervisor, MN DNR in his letter dated December 7, 2009. I3I i Prepared By: John M. Scherek Title: Eng. Spec.'Senior Date:■i 53 i\ I We set an additional benchmark as follows: At the connection between the non-inventoried wetland SW of Basin 56-994 and Basin 56-994 - a horizontal 60d spike 1.5' above the ground in the N-NE side of a 0.8’ boxelder, 8' north of a clump of five boxdders and 50’ to 60’ east of the connection between the basins, at the NW comer of a wooded area; elevation - 1159.47. 5 ii Basin 56-994 is a long narrow basin situated SE to NW, with a somewhat narrow neck between the main portion of the basin and the west-most portion. It is mostly heavy cattail vegetation with some scattered small pockets of open water. On 9/29/09 we found the water level at the SE end to be 0.40' higher than the water level on the NW end. This is most likely due to the pocketing of water atid/or the dense vegetation within the basin. As well, most of the watershed into the basin enters the basin on the SE end. 1 > The OHW level of the basin is based on the average reduced elevation of the 15 best trees ( all ash, most of which are dead or dying), of the 23 which we documented (ash, cottonwood and boxelder). No stainlines or washlines were observed. No water level is shown for the basin on the 19.73 USGS quadrangle. The basin is depicted by marsh symbols with one pocket of open water on the NW end, all contained within the 1150 contour. i 11Following are the elevations we found at the outlet:1 iWater level at beginning of outlet ditch Bottom in cattail vegetation in basin Bottom at beginning of outlet ditch Ditch bottom ^proximately Vz way between the b^n and the beaver dam Ditch bottom at iqjstream side of beaver dam Headwater at beaver dam Top of beaver dam (present runout of basin) (the beaver dam is ai^proximately 50' to 60’ downstream of the basin at the upstream side of a cut thru an old road/trail crossing) Tailwater at beaver dam Bottom at upstream side of cut thru road grade Bottom in cut thru road grade (very solid gravel and rock) (this would be the runout in lieu of the beaver dam) Bottom at downstream side of cut thru road grade Channel bottom 10' downstream Water level at same location Chaimel bottom 43' downstream Channel bottom 55’ downstream Water level at same location 1151.93 1149.8 1149.6 1149.6 1150.0 . 1151.93 1151.7 I II I i i1150.35 1149.8 1150.1 . Two different sections of the road are under water by as much as 1.8'. On the NE side of this wetland, it would outlet over ground to Basin 56-994. As well, there is apparently an underground tile that outlets to Basin 56-994. On 9/29/09 we found a beaver dam across the entire NE ■ end of fliis wetland. We also found the downstream end of the tile line, but could not locate the upstream end. I suspect that the upstream end is buried under the beaver dam. Howevetj there is flow from the downstream end of the tile, so water is either seeping into the buried tile or the tile is exposed. If the upstream end of the tile is accessible, it can be documented at a later date using the benchmark that we set nearby. ! It is understood that the water would be directed to the Oscar Wildlife Management Area (WMA) but that no ditching or other work will occur on the WMA. It is also understood that erosion control measures will be taken so that siltation and washing of sediments does not result in filling of the wetland on the WMA.
