The granting of this variance would provide the applicant with a reasonable use of his property. After additional consideration and discussion, motion was made by Mark Steuart, seconded by David Holmgren and carried with Leona Zimmerman voting no, to deny a variance from the side lot line setback noting that no adequate hardship had been shown and expressing concerns for public safety (fire) due to the crowded conditions of this immediate area. The property is described as Lot 4, Svendsgaards Camp, Long Lake in Elizabeth Township. A letter from Willis and Shirley Stelter in favor of the applicants’ request was read for the record. Dean and Emily Benz - Approved Dean and Emily Benz, Fargo, ND, requested a variance “to put up a screen room in front of our trailer. This room would fall behind the string line between our neighbors. This room will help against bugs in summer, and provide a nice addition to our lot. The trailer cannot be moved back form the lake due to a lack of grade, without earth moving or adding fill. Also, we plan to build a flat deck with no railing. This would fall under the 3’ limit.” The property is described as Lot E, Poss Survey Lots of Government Lot 7, Section 31 of Dunn Township by Lake Lizzie. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or against the request. After consideration, motion was made by Cecil Femling, seconded by David Holmgren and unanimously carried, to approve development up to what the string line would allow. Richard J. Harding - Approved/Denied Richard J. Harding, Council Bluffs, lA, requested a variance of 5’ from the required side lot line setback of 10’ and a variance from the easement road right-of-way for the placement of a 20’ by 28’ addition 5’ from the side lot line and approximately 6' from the easement road. The property is described as Lot 2 of the West Half of Government Lot 1, Section 26 of Clitherall Township by Crane Lake. Letters from the following individuals opposing the applicant’s request were read for the record: Waldon and Eva Hartje, Lorna L. Dally and Melvin Grundmeier. The audience was polled with Don Dally speaking against the request. After consideration, motion was made by Cecil Femling to approve a 10’ variance from the required road right-of-way setback of 20’. This motion died for lack of a second. After additional discussion and consideration, motion was made by John Everts, seconded by Cecil Femling and carried with Leona Zimmerman voting no, to allow construction no closer to the road right-of-way than the existing structure with the condition that no more than 25% of the total lot area can be covered with imperious surface. Harding I'm writing as a joint property owner on Crane Lake, along with my two sons, Gary Grundmeier and Daniel Grundmeier. Our property being in the name of Daniel Grundmeier, 1000 Fairmount, St.Paul, MN. I would like to urge the Otter Tail County Board of Adjustment to deny this variance, any structure of this size in the limited space available. Fir«#L2632 We oppose this proposed addition for the following reasons; 1. TWs lot is already over-built. We believe the tfiagrant and drawing to be deceptive in the look of buildings in relation to lot llneS"it looks like there is more room than actually exists. 2. We believe the addition would severely damage the west neighbor. Any ilinher addition would harm the neighbors privacy, their view from their living room and their bedroom, frielr sun and air, and therefore their property value. 3. The properties in this camp are already too close. All were built as small summer cottages. If the property is not adequate to needs-need to find one that is. It’s possitde that this I^openy is not suitable fbr year-round needs. 4. We oppose this plan and would oppose any adaptation of it...i.e. single story, etc. Sincerely, WaidonHartje " EvsHartje ^ SC» Notice of Hearing for Variance Otter Tail County Courthouse 121 West Junius Ave. Fergus Falls, MN 56537 (218) 739-2271 Ext. 240 Applicant must be present at the scheduled hearing.
