I would like to build a garage that would be 24 feet wide and 32 feet
long as shown in the attached scale drawing,
the property line, I will be only one foot from the edge of ray drain
field.
If I build it 10 feet off
If I'm granted a five foot variance, I would have six feet betwee^

would leave me some room to work on the drain field if a wanted to expand
it in the fu#ture. Thank you for your consideration of this request.

Gary and Janet Kalding - Approved as modified.
Gary and Janet Kalding, Fargo, ND, requested a variance “to build a garage that would be 24 feet wide
and 32 feet long as shown in the applicant’s scaled drawing. If I build it 10 feet off the property line, I
will be only one foot from the edge of my drain field. If I were granted a five-foot variance, I would have
six feet between the garage and the drain field. This would give me room for a sidewalk and would
leave me some room to work on the drain field if I wanted to expand it in the future." The property is
described as Lot 20, Birchwood Shores, Pickeral Lake in Maine Township. The audience was polled
with no one speaking for or against the request. After consideration, motion was made by Randall
Mann, second by David Holmgren and unanimously carried, to approve a variance of 1’ from the
required drain field setback of 10’ for the construction of a 24’ wide garage 9’ from the drain field and
10’from the lot line.
Ralph and Verona Berg - Approved as requested.
Ralph and Verona Berg, Madison, MN, requested a variance of 60’ from the required ordinary high
water level setback of 100’ and a variance of 10’ from the required shore impact zone setback of 50’ for
an addition to an existing cabin 40’ from the ordinary high water level. The property is described as the
south half of Lot 8 and all of 9, Royell Acres First Addition and part of Government Lot 3, Section 26 of
Tordenskjold Township by Stalker Lake. David Berg also appeared along with the applicants at the
public hearing. The audience was polled with Jerry Begley speaking for the request. After
consideration, motion was made by Randall Mann, second by David Holmgren and unanimously
carried, to approve the placement of the proposed addition, as depicted on the applicants’ drawing,
noting that it is behind the string line as established by the Land and Resource Department. Hardship
is the terrain features of the applicants’ property.
Robert J. or Norma Lee - Approved with conditions.
Robert J. or Norma Lee, Battle Lake, MN, requested a variance to subdivide a parcel of less than 5
acres from and existing 6.7 acre parcel and a variance which would allow this parcel to have less than
the required 150’ of water frontage. The proposed parcel would have approximately 40,000 square feet
of area and from the drawing it appears that the parcel would have approximately 143’ of water
frontage. The property is described as part of Government Lot 7, Section 24 and part of Government
Lot 1, Section 25 of Everts Township by Molly Stark Lake. Clem Hendrickson, Surveyor, appeared
along with the applicants at the public hearing. The audience was polled with no one speaking for or
against the request. After consideration, motion was made by Les Estes, second by Cecil Femling and
unanimously carried, to approve the subdivision of an existing 6.7 acre parcel with the following
conditions;
1. the newly created parcel must have 150’ of water frontage,
2. the newly created parcel must have room for two on-site septic systems,
3. the newly created parcel must have at least 40,000 square feet of area,
4. there can be no structures placed on that portion of this parcel which lies to the North of the
county road,
5. the portion of the newly created parcel lying south of the county road must extend to the South
at least 250’, instead of the 200’ shown on the drawing,
6. the remaining 136' of water frontage must remain with the balance of the original parcel, and
7. a registered surveyor’s drawing must be provided.
It was noted that the remaining 136’ of water frontage exceeds 75% of the required frontage and the
remaining area greatly exceeds the required 40,000 square feet of area required for platted lots.
