The proposed screen porch and patio will be no closer to the OWHL than the deck currently is. By remaining within the existing footprint we are able to retain several mature trees that provide shade and privacy to our neighbors and maintain the natural environment of the property. First, as a neighbor with property on West Lost Lake, we welcome the Stramers, and hope to be their good neighbors. I also have anticipated that with the long narrow property they purchased on the very visible and narrow unique land configuration of the land bridge separating the two parts of West Lost Lake, and with some existing old buildings from a scout camp from many years ago, that new owners would likely seek variance to rebuild one home on 200’ of lakefront, and perhaps restore existing buildings on the property for some supplemental use. I am generally in favor and understanding of such limited variance to improving existing structures being allowed. However, I am not in favor of the further variances being sought. The applicant seeks variance for a compound of TEN structures, including campers, far inside the 200 foot setback for a Natural Environment Lake on a relatively small portion of their land. This is a very visible part of the lake, at its narrowest passage. The quality of distance and natural habitat will be significantly intruded upon for other residents of the lake who have sought and preserved their properties with Natural Environmental Lake qualities and expectancies. I believe it is reasonable for the applicant to restore and enlarge the existing house and to restore and perhaps modestly enlarge the supplemental cabins on site, and perhaps also the store / tornado shelter. These in themselves will be a very noticeable concentrated visible presence on the lake, all buildings being between 48' and 77' of the OHWL. I am not in favor of the proposed three 16'x8' patios being added to the front of each cabin, as presumably these could be enclosed patios extending the visible structures already only 48' from the OHWL an additional 8'-16' closer to the OHWL. Also, both the proposed 40'x40' pole shed, and the 4 RV sites all additionally inside the 200' setback observed on a Natural Environmental Lake, will make for an extremely visible and busy conglomeration of buildings, again presumably on a relatively condensed portion of the land. I advise against the granting of variance for 4 additional campers to be parked inside the 200' set back. I understand the need for storage — the pole shed, if granted variance to build, in my opinion, would be better placed at variance at least 200' back from the southern part of West Lost Lake (where the water passage is narrow, and structures on the lot are by far more visible to neighbors), and instead be closer to the northern part of West Lost Lake where there is a much greater body of water, no near visible neighbors, and much less obtrusive to sight lines. Also, it does appear at a glance from the OTC GIS web map that the requisite setbacks of 200' from both lakes may be achievable or nearly so at the far western end of the lot, for both RV's and pole shed, or otherwise alternative building site. I do not presume to know what provisions would be made to serve the septic needs of a minimum of 4 dwelling structures, but would express concern both for the protection of the lake from sewage seepage, and the ability of septic tank trucks to service the property. Again, I wish the Stramers well and welcome them as they develop and settle on their new beautiful lot on West Lost Lake. Thank you. Board, for hearing my views. In the intervening years there have been at least two large development projects requesting variances. They were denied. The problem is still the same: impact on a natural environment lake. It seems to me that there is the potential for lake degradation from this proposal to overpopulate a narrow strip of land. Any buildings should follow the rules like so many other land owners. Just our opinion, but the existing nature trail is probably the best use for this property. Thank you.
