Scott Arndt - Variance application approved as requested. (9:02 p.m.)
Scott Arndt, part of Government Lots 2 and 3, Northeast Quarter of the Southeast Quarter, part of the Southeast
Quarter and part of the Northwest Quarter of the Southeast Quarter, Section 12 of Sverdrup Township by East Lost
Lake, requested the following: I would like to build over 20’ to 25’ height to fit my tractor and equipment in to a shop.
Shop to be 200’ to 250’ to possible spot it can go. The audience was polled with no speaking for or against the
variance as requested. After discussion and consideration, David Wass made a motion, second by Paul Larson and
unanimously carried, to approve the proposed development as described in the variance application dated May 12,
2014 and as depicted in the drawing submitted with the variance application. This is an existing farm site, the
proposed structure is for an agricultural use and the proposed location will have no negative impact on the immediate
area.
Christopher Helle - Variance appiication approved as requested. (9:06 p.m.)
Christopher Helle, part of Government Lot 4, Section 12 of Maine Township by Pickerel Lake, requested the following:
proposed to extend stairway to west the length of house 32’ by 6’. Front of steps to be 58’ +/- to lake. Existing deck
stairs are closer to lake then allowed. The audience was polled with no speaking for or against the variance as
requested. A letter from Steven J and Patricia A Lies in support of the variance as requested was read for the record.
Lynette Helle represented the applicant at the public hearing. After discussion and consideration, Thomas Lee made
a motion, second by Ward Uggerud and unanimously carried, to approve the variances necessary to allow the
applicant to extend his existing stairway to the west the full length of the house (32’ by 6’) as depicted on the drawing
submitted with the variance application. The applicant’s proposed development will not negatively impact the
immediate neighborhood.
Rodney and Connie Olmsted - Variance application approved as modified. (9:10 p.m.)
Rodney and Connie Olmsted, part of Government 3, Section 22 of Eastern Township by Long and Mary Lakes,
requested the following: a variance of 119’ from 200 lake setback to construct a 12’ by 24’ porch 8T from the lake.
Variance was granted in April 2014 to construct a 10' by 24’ deck in this location due to misunderstanding of
terminology. I would like to revise variance to include a roof and walls. The audience was polled with no speaking for
or against the variance as requested. After discussion and consideration, Steve Schierer made a motion, second by
Thomas Lee and unanimously carried, to approve the placement of an attached enclosed porch no closer to the
ordinary high water level than the existing dwelling. It should be noted that the variance as approved does not directly
or indirectly grant any other variances for the proposed development.
Steve and Lisa Ackerman - Variance application approved as requested. (9:21 p.m.)
Steve and Lisa Ackerman, Government Lot 6, Section 5 of Star Lake Township by Moore Lake, requested the
following: Setback requirement is 200’ from the lake and where we want to build is less than 200’. 1.) Replace
existing 20’ by 24’ shed with a 50’ by 44’ shed being 155’ from the lake, requirement is 200’. 2.) Replace existing
dwelling with a 40’ by 58’ dwelling and attached garage being 150’ from the lake, requirement is 200’. Lisa Ackerman
attended the public hearing. The audience was polled with no speaking for or against the variance as requested. An
email from Robert D. Richard in support of the variance as requested was read for the record. After discussion and
consideration, Michael Harris made a motion, second by Ward Uggerud and unanimously carried, to approve a
variance of 45’ from the required ordinary high water level setback of 200’ for placement of a 50’ by 44’ shed 155’
from the ordinary high water level and a variance of 50’ from the required ordinary high water level setback of 200’ for
the placement of 40’ by 58' dwelling with an attached garage 150’ from the ordinary high water level. The existing
structures need significant maintenance. The proposed development will not obstruct the view from the adjacent
properties. The hardship/practical difficulty is the terrain features of the applicants’ property.

RE: Christopher Helle - Variance Application
Dear Board Members;
Please be advised that the undersigned are the northeasterly neighbors abutting the property of
Christopher Helle for which a variance has been requested to extend a stairway to the west the
length of the house.
Please be advised that we are totally supportive and endorse Christopher’s request for the
variance.
Christopher’s wife has done an outstanding job of caring for the property since taking ownership
of the building and the grounds and their efforts have added to the value of all of the neighboring
properties.
The variance being sought is totally unobtrusive and will in no way negatively affect ours or
other neighboring properties, but rather will be an enhancement.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Patricia A. Lies
