Otter Tail County Board of Adjustment Otter Tail County Courthouse 121 West Junius Ave. Fergus Falls, MN 56537 Dear Board Members; I am writing to express my strong opposition to the variance requested by Janice M. Peterson (Lot 32, Block 1, Trowbridge Point, Fire # C322). Unfortunately, I cannot attend the hearing scheduled for 7 p.m. on July 11, 1996 as I have made prior plans to be out of the country at that time. My family owns and uses the cabin and lot on the east side, and adjacent to, Janice Peterson's property. We also own a lot off of the lake which is located across the road from the Peterson property. Consequently, the uses and changes to the property owned by Janice Peterson will affect us to some degree. My family has made a substantial investment in the property in the amount of time and money spent, and we feel the need at this time to protect the beauty of the area as well as the value of our property. Specifically, I object to the proposal to place such a large trailer on a small lot so close to our property line (0 feet setback) and the edge of the lake water. It is my belief that ordinances have been enacted to protect and preserve the lake environment to prevent individuals from locating so near the lake. In addition, regulations have been set up to provide conformity and consistency in terms of construction and siting of property to protect current and future land owners in the area. It appears that if this variance (or a variation of it) is granted, that such a decision would go counter to the intent and spirit of the law. Because my sons will be staying at the cabin this weekend, ! have asked them to examine the situation in person and if necessary, send you a letter on my behalf expanding our position. It is also very possible that my father will be attending the hearing and, if so, may speak on our behalf. Finally, I trust that you will do the proper thing concerning this matter. Thank you. Curtis Hieggelke 2314 Mason Joliet, IL 60435 (815)-744-2073 %I July 1, 1996 Board of Adjustment Otter Tail County Fergus Falls, Mn. Variance requested by Janice Peterson Lot 32, Block 1, Trowbridge Point Re: Gentlemen: As property owners on Trowbridge Point, we strongly object to the proposed variance requested by Mrs. Peterson. The placement of a 60 foot trailer on a 65 foot lot, should not even be considered. would restrict the neighbor's view of the lake and result in erosion of the shoreline. A 17 foot set-back from the lake With placement on the property line, how would they maintain the trailer (wash windows, mow, etc.) without encroaching on the neighbors property. This property abuts the common lot which is for the use of the property owners on the back lots. Mrs. Peterson, who does not own property on the back lot, has used this common lot for a driveway, parking, boat lifts, and dock, for many years, to the detriment of the rightful users. trailer within 4 feet of the common lot, the above situation would certainly continue and become worse. If allowed to place a We already have a trailer moved in last year on the point with a variance, which has become an eye-sore and a traffic hazard because of parking on the road. If this variance is allowed, it would set a precedent for other lots and the lowering of property values. The board has seen fit to establish these regulations and they should be considered.
